Well is certainly a strange choice to to buy the rival club of the only club plays in light blue, and turn their red-white(?) shirt to light blue.

I mean like someone would buy Internazionale and turn them into from black and blue to red and black next to Ac Milan.

Not a fan of making them change their shirt and name. 99% of the fans would hate it if it happened to their club even if it isnt a 100 year old club. At least the New York team is a totally new team which seems to me more acceptable way to go with this branding than just pick a club and make them blue and call them XY City.

I think the benefits of being owned by MCFC outweigh the disappointment of a change of colours for a club just 5yrs old....

Hardly a Cardiff City scenario is it?

But if its just going to anger the fans then what would be the point?

What's the reason for this colour change anyways?

It means a lot to the fans though, the colours of Melbourne are red and white, if you change the colour to blue, change the name etc it isn't really their club anymore.

To be fair, the majority of people in Melbourne wouldnt have had a clue the colours of Melbourne were red and white until Heart came along. I lived there for 6 years, it was all about the Victorian colours, navy blue and white (colours of their rival). Never even heard of Melbourne colours until the takeover.

Grew up in Adelaide and still don't know what their colours are.

I can accept the argument that red and white are the colours of their club, so they want to keep it. But not the Melbourne colours thing.

Re: Melbourne Heart FC Thread

More particularly, Heart fans have an issue with sky blue as it's the colours of New South Wales sport, and Victoria and NSW have a rivalry to match Manchester/Liverpool or the English North/South divide.

City want all their teams to look and play the same for brand identification purposes.

Don't even think that is a huge issue, I get the feeling they will accept "City" colours as an away kit, so long as the red and white stays for home.

Thats how I see this playing out, there might be a gradual acceptance of skyblue as home colours but if it ever happens I think its a long way off. And it would only be after they see the benefits our ownership has had for clubs/community. I also wonder if red and white might be used as our away colours for a while (and NYCFC). A pretty powerful message that it isnt a one way street, but a proper partnership between clubs.

Not sure how that would go down with our supporters but can't see a problem in MLS.

Fair enough was just browsing their forum and it seemed the majority believe the red and white represent the colours of Melbourne.

Personally I just hate the idea of an owner buying a club and changing everything about it until it is unrecognisable (e.g red bulls ownership of Austria Salzburg).

Cant see city wanting to piss of the hard core support of Melbourne hearts as there not exactly getting full house crowds at the moment.

It says above that City want certain things to be identifiable across the three clubs and sky blue is one of those.

Re: Melbourne Heart FC Thread

Hey mods why is this on the General Football Forum?

Melbourne Heart alongside New York City are part of us and should be in the Bluemoon Forum. Better still a sub forum like the EDS & Academy for clubs aligned to City.

No point in a sub-forum yet. We struggle to even keep a single thread active, let alone an entire forum.

Really? I think they answered that above... so that all the 'brands' feel part of the same group. And of course to expand the brand awareness that is Manchester City
