Melbourne City FC Thread

Couple of fantastic signings there. I know of even a few Melbourne Victory supporters considering City season tickets to see Lampard and Villa play.

Even on short term deals they both have the professionalism to arrive prepared and fully committed.

Still Australian and International marquees to announce but the club is doing a great job of convincing doubters that the takeover is a big positive for them.

Just been announced that they've signed Lampard,on the same deal as Villa; off to NYC after.

Reported, not announced. No word from either New York or Melbourne. There's still a (small) chance it could turn out to be nonsense.

big news but i wish it was an actual signing, these guest stints have been great but it feels a bit plastic from an A-league perspective, nothing wrong with one a season but two a season is a bit much imo

Might be interesting if any Melbourne City fans could give us an overview of the club and the team - who are you best players, what style do you play, and what are the expectation and predictions for next season?

I gather Sydney FC are the Man U of the A-League in that nobody really likes them but they are the most successful? And Wellington have a team in the A-League but as they are from New Zealand they are prohibited from qualifying for the Asian Championships if they ever did win the A-League, is that right (Chris Killen plays/played for them iirc)? Are the player registration rules over there still quite tight (1 marquee signing only, 5 foreigners and only 4 subs per game?)

Sorry if posted........

Melbourne City will take on three English clubs as part of a pre-season camp at the Carrington training centre of English powerhouse, Manchester City.

League Two side Bury FC, League One’s Oldham Athletic, and a select side from Championship team Bolton Wanderers FC have been lined up to face the A-League outfit during an intensive 17-day camp.

Recent signing Damien Duff will join his new club in Manchester. Duff, who played 100 times for the Republic of Ireland, signed a one-year deal with Melbourne City last month.

“This tour will form an important part of our pre-season and it is a great opportunity to prepare for the A-League season, utilising Carrington, an exceptional Premier League level facility,” van’t Schip said.

“It also presents us with a great opportunity to play teams from the English leagues, for our squad to gain fitness and experience, and to ensure we are progressing well ahead of our season.

“It is unique for teams and players in the A-League to have this kind of opportunity, so we are looking forward to forming further bonds with Manchester and Manchester City.”

Carrington is home to five pitches and includes a state-of-the-art medical centre, player analysis unit, boot and dressing rooms and a wide array of further player support facilities.

Coaches and players will depart for the UK on Sunday and next Monday, setting up base at the English Premier League club’s headquarters between July 8 – July 24 before returning to Australia ahead of the FFA Cup’s Round of 32 clash against Sydney FC.

Jason Hoffman, an inaugural player at Melbourne City, said the camp would help the raise the bar in the club’s preparations for the upcoming 2014/15 season.

“It’s going to be a great experience for the whole team to go over to Manchester and to use what is a top class training facility at Carrington,” Hoffman said.

“We’ve got some great matches lined up against some quality opponents and as a group it will be a great opportunity for us to prepare in the best possible way for the A-League season and the FFA Cup.”

The match against Bury will take place behind-closed-doors at the facility during the camp.

The club will then play the first of two open matches against Oldham Athletic FC at Boundary Park, Oldham, on Saturday July 19 at 3pm (BST).

The second open match will be against a Bolton Wanderers XI at the County Ground, Leyland, which commences at 7.30pm (BST) on Wednesday July 23.

i am not a Melbourne city fan but i can answer some of those, Sydney fc have a lot of money and have had some very very rare success in the past, but have not done anything for a while, a midtable team at the most but everyone does hate them, but not because of their success, more because they pretend they are the biggest club in Australia football wise but their attendances say otherwise, people hate Brisbane Roar due to their success

Wellington do have a team but i am quite sure they are unable to qualify for Asia which is odd but understandable, and player signings tend to be quite tight, we have a certain amount of Foreigners i think its 5 but soon to be 4 soon, we have a salary cap apart from an Australia Marquee and a International Marquee who's wages do not come out of the cap but the rest of the team's payments come from the cap

Melbourne city has a player who came from my club called Aaroon Mooy very good player when he isnt being lazy, i dont know if he is their best though but i think he could be a key part of their team, an important player for them
