Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

City's involvement in the A-league will benefit both the club and the A-League in general. City will spread the gospel in Aus and Heart get some stability which has generally been lacking since it was founded 4 years ago.

Im guessing the price City paid for Melbourne Heart's licence is less than most of the transfer fees they've paid for players. (Was quoted around 12M AUD a few weeks back)

The A-League is also different in which each team has 23 registered players with a yearly salary cap of $2.5M AUD a season. Each team is allowed 5 international players, and allowed 2 marquee players (1 Australian and 1 international) as part of their roster which are not included in the Salary Cap, so Im not sure how MCFC would go loaning players to Heart.

In a Melbourne sporting context, Heart is definately little brother to Victory, (Around 22,000 Victory season tickets vs 5000ish Heart Season tickets even though they play out of the same stadium most of the time.)

The existing Heart board has struggled to engage much of the public, as most Melbourne Football fans either follow the Premiership and dont follow the A-League or would have followed Victory at the start of the competion or any of the other local teams that made up the old NSL.

If City put the same level of professionalism and engagement they did at the start of the takeover, and provide the Heart the same stability and resources, it will provide a great chance for them to be the best run club in the competition.

Looking forward to the City Tour if it is happening too.

Just reading on the Melbourne Heart Forum they have and many of them seem quite positive about the takeover.

One poster seemed gutted though as he is a Rag lmao.

Hope they play in Sydney as well. If not, I'm coming down to Melbourne!
