Views from their fans

Shaun Goater as manager please i am so happy with this news
Not a bad idea, though I'm sure Danny Tiatto will be involved over there.

WE'RE FUCKING RICH!
Yes, yes you are.

Guttered.. as a manchester united supporter.. We lose to sunderland. I lose Melbourne Heart to Man City...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They seem pretty happy overall:

This is awesome.

Hands up if you've been wearing a huge shit eating grin that just won't go away since hearing the news

Suck on that Victory and SMFC

Best news in a long time....

Best news all year! And Melbourne city FC sounds great if they were to change it. I hope we keep the same colours though I love the red and white.

Omg! I just want to pull over and have a wank!

It's wrong to change a clubs name. I'm sorry but it's how I feel.
The club's been around for four years FFS, and half the fans don't even seem to care about the current, tacky, USA-style name.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Wow - they are actually excited. After the NYCFC deal, I was expecting dozens of "can't stand City, will not follow this club" comments. Many of them are even in favour of changing the name to Melbourne City (and one guy has apparently found that "Melbourne City F.C." has already been trademarked as of last week).

Is it possible for MCFC to buy Cork City in Ireland. I keep telling a guy I know who's involved with them to email City and plead for them to take them over. Is it allowed to have 2 clubs in the same continent though? If not I'll stop bugging him.

Yes you can. The only rule is that you can only enter one team you own into any competition, so no Champs League for Cork if that ever happened.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

One of their fans called their former name "plastic" and that Melbourne City was a proper football name. He is correct on both points.

Key points of the sale .....

* City CEO Ferran Soriano emphasising the investment "is for the long term" after choosing Australia as the UAE-backed club's latest outpost following the establishment of New York City in the MLS last year.

* While Soriano promised to put the full resources of City's burgeoning talent development structure behind Heart, he emphasised that the club had to keep its own Australian identity.

* "This is not a small Manchester team, this is a Melbourne team that will use the resources of the City group. Conceptually they are very different so when people ask if we will bring Manchester City players, I say probably not - we're going to bring the players who are needed in Melbourne

*"We have a network of 36 scouts, who will now be looking for players for Melbourne as well."

* "In every organisation that you want to improve, the first thing is to listen," he said. "So we will not make any significant changes until the season is finished, also out of respect for the current manager, team and staff.

"So we will listen, understand everything in detail, then we will decide very fast and we will execute very fast any changes need to be made. This is the lesson we have learned [from Manchester City and New York City].

CITY BUY MELBOURNE HEART

Not sure where Moomba's thread titled Melbourne Blues went , just me be lazy again but City have bought Melbourne Heart taking an 80 per cent stake.

The chairman and major shareholder was unaware of the deal until the last minute because of the ongoing dialogue with Sydney FC over recent weeks which fell through at the last hurdle apparantly.

Plenty of news in the Fox Sports Channels and SBS over the next few days with an interview with our CEO detailing what will happen but its nailed on City will visit Australia for two games next year.

Great News for Melbourne Heart but I suggest a change in colour next season for sure.

Heart currently sit bottom of the league having won their first game in 19 last week so its big philp for them.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Fucking hell Sky Sports News is shit. All of the headlines are about United's match/Mata and then Anelka.

I know there isn't a lot to report right now but apparently a club buying another club isn't big news?

-- Thu Jan 23, 2014 12:24 am --

Is it possible for them to get relegated from that league? Don't know anything about the A League

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

The Melbourne Victory fan in me is gutted, but City could turn this around on it's head.

The ADUG will bring the level of professionalisim the Heart need, as its currently in shambles at the moment. This will be an interesting turn of events.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Big news over hear today in OZ.

Sorry just got up after watching Manures demise and doing the morning duties for the better half.

Wouldn't surprise me if our owners bought the Titanic Next (LOL) and arrange to have it shipped out to Melbourne.

No relegation from the A-League...

The irony is that the Heart are in red and white and Melbourne Victory (the 'big brother') wears navy blue...

Much as I'd enjoy it, I don't think the diehard sections of the Heart fan base would appreciate a move to sky blue...

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

would be good to have a MCFC in the a league. Surely we will change the red to blue though can't be having that

No only wound up which a number of clubs have had inflicted on them.

Despite the league being on better footing since its overhaul a few years back and decent crowds and a slight change in season the better players still go overseas mainly to Japan and Europe.

Australia has qualified for the World Cup for the fourth time now but the starting eleven rarely has any players who are in the A League full time.

Recently Harry Kewell has returned to play for Melbourne Heart after failing to fire at Melbourne Victory and William Gallas is Perth Glory's marquee signing.

Most mooners would have known about Blobby Fowlers sojourn to oz where he played for NTH QLD ( NOW DEFUNCT ) and Perth.

Of course Del Pierro currently is in his second season for Sydney but has had a poor run with injuries this season but he still dominates games in the main when he is fit which tells you something about the standard of the A League.

Our top two teams compete in the Asian club championships every year but we are well down the pecking order on a club basis to date.
