Melbourne City FC Thread

Finally dusted off Saturdays debacle and now look forward to Friday night.

Our first continental adventure. Playing 9pm KO (Melbourne time) in Bangkok.
Some decent away day options in that competition!

I see the next game is against a slightly confused Filipino side, United City. Maybe they're hedging their bets ;)

1:1 at half-time

Dangda, the scorer for the Thai team, had a trial at City when Shinawatra owned the club. Another City link, infact this CL has been full of City links, yesterday Mumbai City played Al Jazira, which is owned by Sheikh Mansour and tomorrow Yokohama Marinos kickoff their CL campaign.

Nabbout scored nice one from outside the box with his left cutting in from the right.

Then we seemed to sit back, and they started stringing some passes, missed a sitter from the 6 yarder. Then somehow one of them out jumped our keeper and scored.

We are lucky to be 1:1.

Our midfield is rubbish and our goalkeeper sucks.

Apart from that we are okay.

I see that Sydney F.C. are playing our sister club Yokohama F-Marinos in the same competition in 15 minutes.
As a subtext to this, Yokohama is now managed by Kevin Muscat probably one of the most despised individuals in relation to Melbourne City as both player and then coach.

Ironic he is now a CFG employee. (Well actually part but lets not get semantic)

Regardless we all hate his guts.

Another game tonight .9pm KO Melbourne time. Playing BG Pathum United. A win we should top the group and go into the knockout stages. A draw and we need other results to go our way to be a best second place qualifier. We lose probably done.

We have been scoring, but our keeper sucks and is a real liability.

Think you'll be ok, seemed like you were finding your feet in the first group game (didn't catch it all), your correct that there's always a goal against around the corner too.

For us in the UK kickoff is midday and will be live on some betting sites i.e. Ladbrokes although I'm sure it'll be somewhere on IPTV.

Drew nil nil.

Finished 0-0...if you didn't watch, well done.

@heartman what's the system for a second place qualification?

Have they done enough already as there didn't seem any urgency today even late on.
I think the lack of urgency comes back to coach. 35c and massive humidity and we make 2 subs at the 90th minute, crazy.

And no I don't think we've done enough. To qualify to the rd of 16, 12 group winners go and 4 of the best second placed finishers qualify. Currently 4 other teams are on 10 points, 2 teams us being 1 of the 2 are on 9 points.

We need to win our last game and have results go our way. Had we won we would be qualified, had we lost then we couldn't qualify.

For me a conservative approach and hopefully justified.

Fingers crossed for Sunday our last game and Monday the last group fixture.
