Hope they play in Sydney as well. If not, I'm coming down to Melbourne!

Bring a coat ;)
Ecstatic that they're playing in Melbourne

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

G'day guys,
Melbourne Heart season ticket holder here, woke up this morning to find the great news my club had been brought by MCFC. Very positive news after the season from hell it's been with us only getting our first win last Friday night. Anyway, most of us Heart fans feel a name change to Melbourne City FC would be good for the club, as others have said, it's a real football name and it would mean we'd finally not have to put up with the media's insistence on using heart related puns when reporting on us. However, many of us, including myself, would like to see our club stick to the red and white colours especially when the city of Melbourne's flag is red and white. Also having two blue teams already in the league means we'd still prefer the red and white.

Also in our league, our governing body, the FFA must approve of any name change or colour changes as well as any sale of the club, which luckily for us was approved. I must say I really hope you guys invest heavily in our club as I'm sure our players would prefer real ice baths instead of the current wheelie bins they use now.

I am afraid for you like Cardiff and Hull despite the resistance what the owner wants the owner gets.

I think in fairness though the owners would seek wide consultation before any of the changes you refer to above but it won't be heart and red and white for too much longer I would suggest.

The ffa will sanction these changes without hesitation.

Money talks in football and they won't want to ruffle the nest that has laid the golden egg so to speak for them.

Its interesting that its been reported which can be easily verified that your chairman was only briefed on the takeover effectively after it had been sign off.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Red and white is the Melbourne city's colours correct me if Im wrong?

Would be alright to make a compromise and management would think of this anyway.

Maybe blue strips on the red and white for the home kit, and sky blue for away.

If the name 'Heart' has grown into the fanbase, why not call the supporters the Hearts?

The City, the Heart and the Soul. Thats referring to Manchester the City, Melbourne the Heart, and New York the Soul.

I'll get my coat.

Well Soriano did mention wanting to listen first so maybe they have a chance at retaining some aspects of there current evolution. I do agree however it's unlikely that a member of the city football group can play with red as it's main colour (thankfully).

Melbourne just entered the world wide war of football.

This is fantastic news for football in Australia. It may force me to improve on my one game total attendance to the A League.

You've basically hit the jackpot, a lot of our fans were hesitant when we were taken over because we weren't sure if this was the real thing, but 5 or so years on and look at the transformation. As others have mentioned I wouldn't get too tied up in the name and kit change because you're still a club that's finding it's identity I'd presume having only been founded 4 years ago. City started out playing in black and under a different name completely. One things for sure you're now the best equipped team in the A-League.

Right, so we've listened. Some nonsense about red isn't it?

They have a blue whale in their (Melbourne) coat of arms. There. The fans can call themselves the blue whales; and water is blue; and the whale is blue. There's a ship as well, sailing on the blue water, so that's all nice. Bit like our ship.

BLUE it is then.

Club crest / badge:
They have four stars on their coat of arms, but they can only have three on their badge if they want any. These will be known in line with the traditional gag as "the pointless stars". Eagles are out, clearly. A kangaroo with spread arms and legs would work, or an emu; so long as the emu was rendered as to make plausible claims it is actually an ostrich. A couple of budgies would do nicely (blue and white ones) especially if they can be given a menacing and ferocious aspect. What about a kiwi? It's only a couple of hours drive to Auckland isn't it? A kiwi would be a right neighbourly gesture.

I think a spreading kangaroo with a ferocious-looking blue budgie on its head, shield in front with three stars and a ship harpooning a whale, and underneath the motto "I HEART MELBOURNE" (in the local dialect, obviously) would look classy.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

A-League club Melbourne Heart could be in for a name change, following its sale to a consortium led by English Premier League giants Manchester City.

An application to trademark the name Melbourne City Football Club was lodged by MHFC Holdings Pty Ltd on January 16 - just a week before the takeover was announced on Thursday. It is still awaiting approval.

Coincidently, the Heart's new minority shareholders and owners of NRL club the Melbourne Storm, Holding M.S. Australia Pty Ltd, have also registered the business name Melbourne City FC with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and bought the domain name MelbourneCityFC.com.au.

Both were registered on July 10 last year, less than two months after the consortium purchased the Storm.

Neither Manchester City, the Heart Consortium Group or Melbourne Storm have indicated a name change is on the cards, only to say they will hold off from making any major announcements until mid-2014 - after the current season ends.

A Melbourne City franchise had been proposed by former vice-president of AFL club Carlton Colin DeLutis in 2008.

But his bid for a second A-League side in Melbourne was withdrawn soon after, with Heart awarded the licence in 2009.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Most of us Heart fans were in favour of a name change for a few years now and names such as Sporting Melbourne FC and Melbourne City were thrown around, however on the club colours issue is that our biggest rival, the Victory wears Blue, how many of you guys would be in favour of your new owner changing your colours to red?
