This is the smirking face of the ex-Manchester City footballer who killed a brother and sister but today was freed early from prison.
Shamed Courtney Meppen-Walter, who killed the siblings while showing off in his Mercedes was today freed after serving only a quarter of his jail term.
Meppen-Walter, 18, today posted a picture on Twitter showing himself smiling and smartly dressed in a suit as he left prison after serving just four months with the caption: 'Fresh out of Pizzy'.
The teenager was sentenced to 16 months in February after his silver Elegance CDI car ploughed into a red Nissan Micra while travelling nearly twice the 30mph speed limit.
The crash in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, claimed the lives of Kulwant Singh, 32, who was driving the Micra and his 37-year old sister Ravel Kaur who was a front seat passenger.
Widow Mrs Kaur’s two sons Amjid and Parveen, who are 16 and 17-years-old were sat in the back and were left fighting for life with serious injuries and had to be cut free from the mangled wreckage. They have since made a good recovery.
It emerged the double tragedy occurred just five months after newly-qualified driver Meppen-Walker was caught speeding at 54mph in another 30mph zone in Bury.
As well as posting a pictured of himself on Twitter, Meppen Walker, from Blackley, Manchester, also revealed details of a poem he wrote about his 'repetitive and claustrophobic' life in prison.
t read: 'Everything in the cell neat. Days repeat and repeat, Faces the same, day after day. This is a place I don’t want to stay.
'Missing certain faces. Being designated to crazy places. Claustrophobic everywhere you go. Crazy criminals you wouldn’t like to know.
'Time goes quick. I wish there was a switch I could click. To turn back time. And take back everything that happened on the 1st of September 2012! Amen!'
The former £1,000-a-week defender, who has been at City since 2003 and has represented England at under-17 level, was on his way to the One Central bar in Manchester when the crash happened in September last year.
Courtney Meppen-Walter was today released from prison after serving just four months of a 16-month prison sentence for causing death by dangerous driving
He was driving a Mercede Elegance CDI and 'jockeying' around for position - accelerating and swapping lanes - with friends that were in a VW Golf.
Observers said the cars were also slowing down, possibly for speed cameras and their driving was erratic.
Mr Singh was driving his sister and her children home from a Sikh temple and was due to return to collect his wife and their two children, aged one and three.
He pulled out out a side road and in to the path of the Mercedes, which was travelling at an average of 56mph in a 30mph zone.
The footballer swerved from left to right then braked but could not avoid the impact.
One witness said Meppen Walker stayed at the scene and was showing remorse especially when he saw the children and he tried to help.
He later claimed his 'lack of driving experience contributed to a likelihood of a collision' but said the Nissan emerged unexpectedly from the side road.
He pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and was banned from the roads for three years.
Manchester City have since terminated his contract.
At the time the footballer was jailed, Kushwant Kaur, Kulwant’s wife, said: 'The driver has taken away my loving husband and father to my two children. Our life has been destroyed.
'Kulwant was more than anything I have ever loved in my life, nothing can replace him.
'I am pleased that justice has been done and I hope that this will teach him so no family has to go through what myself and my family have been through this past few months, and will continue to go through for the rest of our lives.'
Gawa Singh, brother to both Kulwant and Ravel, also said: 'Not only has this incident taken away two loved members of our family- it has also affected in such a big way the people left behind.
'Our lives had begun to improve and we were looking forward to a brighter future, now all that has been taken from us.
'Nothing will bring back our brother and sister and any sentence given by the courts will make our lives any better.
'People who kill on the roads should be banned from driving forever so that they can never do this again to another person.
'We are reminded daily about the loss of our brother and sister, he should be reminded every day too by not having the luxury of having the use of a car.'
A 19-year-old man who was driving the grey VW Golf at the time of the collision faced no further action.
