Mercury Music Award Winner 2020 and other new stuff

Was watching a bbc thing last night about the 80’s map of Britain 1 of 3 and fuck me it pisses over any of this bland modern shite. You have to look for good stuff now back then it slapped you in the face.

Saw that. Friday night is my music night.
I really think it comes down to what generation you grew up in.
I found myself looking back with nostalgia at stuff I wouldn’t go near when I actually lived through it.

I think the stuff that has stood the test of time probably seems more important now than it actually was at time. To me anyway.

You had a bigger choice in those days and even stuff you didn’t like was at least interesting. It had to happen but new ideas and music is very hard to come by. Same with films and comedy tbh. The golden age has passed. 40 years or so of innovation had to come to an end.

Yeah but!
Run that argument past an 18year old now and you’ll be told nobody his age listens to what they play on radio or tv anymore.
He’ll give you a list of what they listen to through t’interweb.

As much as I’d like to believe what we had was superior but the reality is nothing has changed. You only have to look at any music thread in here. Music is subjective and the stuff that usually means most to you is the stuff you lived through in your formative teen and youth years.

I’m telling you. Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be.

New albums recently by Otherlives and Holy Wave, both new to me but gave them a listen after reading reviews. Also Snowgoose have a good album out and my favourite current band are Woods.

Looking forward to hearing the Garcia People album mentioned by someone else earlier in the thread.

Some modern music is frankly great
