Mesut Özil

1) Where have some of you lot been for the last year? Ozil destroyed England single-handedly in the U-21 Championships and has been one of the most sought after players in Europe for the last 12 months.

2) The particular transfer scenario that he is in is right up City's "Strasse" (pardon the pun). We have so far had a very POOR record of securing the big names (Kaka / Terry / Eto'o etc) because they were unconvinced by the project , or were just using us to secure a better deal elsewhere.
BUT we have a very GOOD record of wading into these 1 year contract "run-off" situations and picking up young players who are clearly not going to sign a new deal with their existing clubs ESPECIALLY from Germany. (Boateng / Kompany / De jong / AJ etc)

3) Ozil is a class above the players mentioned above, and therefore will need not just the money but the full "project" red carpet treatment.

4) I was interested by his quote " I do not sing the national anthem before the game but recite to myself the Koran to calm myself ". We can only hope that culturally he may hit it off with the Khaldoons of this world and be told that City will build a team around him that can be serious challengers for the CL etc.

Can someone please clarify, had we been linked with him prior to the World Cup?

Yes but only the same as we were linked with all sorts of other players so I wouldn't get your hopes up too much, but we live in hope.

I agree with Esteban de la Sexface that Ozils perofrmance was the best in the WC so far, by a long way

Any chance this can be laminated and framed?

I said it before and I will say it again. I would rather see us break the bank for this kid than waste 30m on Milner.

But the funny part is Oezil would be nowhere near as expensive as Milner because he is not English and because his contract only lasts another year.

I doubt he will stay at Bremen. My biggest concern, as I said is, that a lot of big clubs have not paid attention to him up until now... that is seriously going to change if he keeps playing like this at the World Cup.

I have watched him in the U-21 World Cup and for Bremen and said many times before that this kid will be the best player Germany has produced in decades, quite possibly the best player since Matthaeus.

Think we may have missed our chance on this kid now. Like you say if he continues to play this well then I'm sure he will have the pick of the best clubs in the world to go and play for. As much as I love us I can accept that City will not be his first, second or even third choice.

All the big clubs already know about him and have done for years. He's not just popped out of nowhere, pretty sure Wenger tried to sign him a few years ago.

I haven't ready anything to that extent, to be honest.

I haven't read anything about United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Madrid, Milan, Juventus or Barcelona etc. etc. chasing Oezil.

This kid was head and shoulders best player at the U21 tournament last year.

He is on everybodys radar - last nights game wont make any difference.

Werder Bremen starlet Mesut Ozil has dealt a blow to suitors Manchester City by revealing he dreams of playing for Barcelona.

The Germany playmaker's club have admitted they may have to cash in on the 20-year-old after contract talks stalled, which has alerted Mark Hughes.
Ozil has impressed in the Bundesliga this season, sparking interest from across Europe, but it seems his heart is set on the Nou Camp when the time is right to leave.
'I've found Barcelona fascinating, ever since I was small,' Ozil told German newspaper Bild. 'They've always had very good players, at the time for example they had Ronaldo and Figo.

'Right now, signing for them is not an issue for me. But this is a dream of mine. But for that to happen I still have to work hard. I am happy at Werder, they have big plans.'

Cashing in: Werder Bremen admit they may have to sell playmaker Ozil
Ozil is under contract till the end of next season and a new five-year deal has been offered. But talks have stalled and won't resume until early next year, leaving sporting director Klaus Allofs in cautious mood.
'We want to keep a player like Mesut,' said Allofs. 'The past has shown that we do not always hold on to players but we hope it will be different.'

Manchester United may also be interested, amid claims in Germany that they bid for him in January last year. Sevilla have also been linked with a move.

this lad is quality, watched him a few times this season and if city were to get him premiership defenders would be craping themselves. he's unmarkable, has quick feet and has tones of pace. (an ideal replacment for bellamy maybe?)
