Anybody been fined by metrolink for supposedly not starting there journey had the fine overturned. At the west ham game we jumped on the tram at piccadilly and were met by metrolink staff who had machines in there hand and they scanned our bank cards and told us we were OK to board, at the Etihad we used the terminal devices to end the journey. 12days later my son has been fined for apparently not starting his journey. I have appealed the fine but been unsuccessful as they are still saying he never started his journey, surely this is not his problem if he was told by a metrolink employee that his card had scanned and he was free to board the tram.
If u were going to try and avoid payment why would u bloody end your journey at the terminals if u hadn't started the journey.

Absolute joke of a firm.

So to clarify, you got on the tram without touching in on the platform scanner first?

how old is he mate? I got one when I was 15 (many moons ago) and they told me I didn’t need to pay as I was u16

I don’t think I have ever paid once / use 5 times a week just going across town.

We got on the tram after metrolink employees who were stood on the platform at piccadilly railway station had scanned his card using a hand device and told him it had registered his card and he was now free to board the tram.

That's why I won't use them and still always buy a paper ticket. Contactless great when it works but if any issues you have absolutely nothing to support your case.
2 other lads that travelled with us also were charged the normal fare and then fined £45 the next day for not starting their journeys.

Looks to me like there putting employees on the line to tell customers that there cards have been accepted when they haven't then there conveniently finning u the next day.

Certainly won't be using trams again.

So you both did exactly the same thing, had your journey started by the metrolink staff and both ended by tapping out? But only one of you is being fined? Is that right?

If so, explain that they have evidence of you both tapping out within seconds of each other and clearly there’s a problem their end with the tapping in on just one of the cards.

What confuses me is that surely if you hadn’t tapped in and then believed you were tapping out then wouldn’t it just record as a tap in and charge an uncompleted journey incurring the max single Adult price of £4.60?

Hello mate, should you change your mind and use the tram again, get a paper ticket to save the hassle. Also, there is a feature on the Metrolink website that allows you to see all the times you used your card for a journey over the last 12 months. Go to the "contactless" section and you will eventually find it.
