His problem - IMHO - is that he does not have a great footballing brain, ie a natural sense of awareness, where to position himself and where to run to. You see this often when he is defending, with him being out of position and getting the wrong side of players. Going forward, he has little quality, rarely beats a man, rarely puts a decent cross in (someone had a wager a couple of seasons back that Micah would not make a single successful cross all season, and I am not sure if he won or lost the bet), rarely hits the target with shots or headers.
On the positive side, he has great pace and enormous strength and defending he can therefore often get himself out of trouble. He also has boundless enthusiam and is always trying to get forward and trying to score. But in a way, this is also the problem. Navas is an incredibly skillful and tricky player with blinding pace. Given half a chance he will usually beat his man and get a quality cross in, or win a corner. Something we saw a lot of in the 2nd half. In the first half, Micah was constantly bombing forward where Navas wanted to be. We ended up with Navas having to cut inside all the time. At one point he gave up and decided to play on the left! And when Micah had the ball going forward (rather than Navas), nothing came of it.
To be fair, Zabba is not completely different, there are similarities. Historically, he was pretty inept going forward too, and in fact until a couple of seasons ago, I would have preferred Richards. But Zabba has improved SO much and now gets into much better positions, makes much better and well timed runs and puts quality crosses in. He is far the better of the two today.
Add to this Micahs shocking injury record - something I think is an unavoidable consequence of his weight and overly muscular physique - and I'm afraid I have doubts whether he has a long term future at City. He may be a fans' favourite, but not sure Pellegrini will see him in that light?
