Micah Richards

Age old debate this one.

Micah was on fire for an hour yesterday and his overlapping runs beyond Navas were a joy but the same old defensive frailties appeared once again.

When the heat is on he stands and watches (almost freezes) and the top players prey on this.

Michael Owen in the 3-4 for one high profile example.
Giggs and Scholes always kept probing on our right and for good reason.

I like Micah a lot and he has a lot to offer.

Rotation of the fullbacks again any one

If I was a left winger I'd rather play against zabs..Just for the fact that we have the lions share of possession in most games, so a left wingerhas to track our full backs for a lot of the match...And there is not a left winger in the league that can match Micahs physicality

Where does he mention the word 'because'?

He has given two opinions, neither based on the other. There is a myth on here that Micah is not good defensively, and that Micah is better than zab. Hardly difficult to understand and is an opinion I share too.
He's used the "myth" that Richards is poor defensively to back up his second point.
Haha no he didn't, he didn't state that that was a reason for his thinking, two opinions.

I think the myth that Micah isn't good defensively is wrong as he is much better than zab IMO

I think the myth about Micah being poor defensively is wrong. He is better than zab IMO

Two different wordings, if he said words to the effect of the 1st one (with words like as or because) then you would be right to criticise him. But he didn't. Two opinions, neither related.
If you say so.

Micah is a good player but to describe him as one of or the best right backs in Europe is way over the top. He has some great qualities, strength and pace, etc, but technically he is average and in terms of brain and awareness he is poor at times. This has been exposed on countless occasions with mistakes he has made playing for us, particularly against top class opposition and even more for England, where he cannot even get in the squad. 9 times out of 10 when he receives the ball he merely goes for the safe option and taps it back to the centre half. On the odd occasion he feels brave enough to carry the ball he can be a great threat with his power and pace and he should do it more often. For me Zabaleta is the first choice RB. However, it is a squad game and all 25 players should get plenty of game time next season.

zabaleta is pretty dire going forward really.

Not what I saw all last season - Mr. MCFC.
They are two different players and Pelligrini will sort out his pairings.
I think it is great that we can have this argument over two fantastic players for the full back position. Living the dream.
C.T.I.D

Micah has the attributes to push himself to be a better defender, Zaba has reached his zenith, plateaued out, but maintains that high level very consistantly, if Micah could do the same, we'd have another big goal threat on our hands ( as he showed yesterday), but consistency is the key now for Micah, being switched on and focussed for the full 90, improving his positional sense like Zaba is the challenge this season.
But if we need a threat going forward, Micah is like a whirlwind, a battering ram to open up defences, his 100m pace is pretty impressive! imagine putting him on with 20-30 mins to go to run at a defence....

It's a myth that Richards is "not good defensively". He is superior defensively to Zabaleta in my opinion
So it's a myth that Richards is poor defensively because you think he's better than Zabaleta? Right, that's fair.
Where does he mention the word 'because'?

Both comments can be taken independently of each other and together.

I have problems with Zabaleta's tendency to try to nick the ball off a player, in the same way as Kompany, and in Europe the players just knock it past them and are through 1 on 1. Hart has made many saves like this over the past 2 seasons in CL.

I thought Zabaleta was very poor against Wigan in the Cup Final, his worst game for us. (everyone has a bad game, accepted).

But I am one of very few, who don't think he should have been player of the year. It's strange a player who is so restricted in his game in terms of his poor forward play should get POTY.

He won POTY on the basis of being a fans favourite more than anything.

Both are great. Providing both plus Navas and Milner stay fit our right side is top quality.

I'm hopeful that Pelligrini will improve each player in one way or another. No one is perfect. :-)
