Agreed im not using them as examples of a lack of education but as an example of how easy it is to lose millions in one night. Granted unlike Johnson these guys pockets are much deeper so they bounced back. But that £25 000 a week Johnson was on does not last long when you drinking and gambling and pissing it down the toilet.
Yeah there's a not completely unfounded theory about Michael Jordan that his dad was killed because of the huge gambling debts he had racked up and that his stint playing baseball was in reality due to a suspension by the NBA because he had been caught gambling on his own games by the league. It's amazing how much of a mess a person can make of their own life even with the crazy money they might be bringing in.

The man is worth $500 million
Yes, but when you're betting $1 million a hole in a round of golf, you can easily surpass your ability to tap into your liquid finances to pay off debts to the mafia quick enough for their liking.

Jack Wilshere had a serious injury that kept him out for 18 months, did he at any stage even put on an ounce of weight during his rehabilitation process? No because he dedicated his life to getting back onto that pitch and respected the club and the fans who pays his wages.
Using Jack Wilshere as a shining example of how to behave when injured is laughable. He's as well known in certain parts of London for being a pisshead (at the very least) as Johnson is in Manchester. And an obnoxious, violent and cowardly excuse for a pisshead at that.

Laughable? hahahahaha, Jack Wilshere is that much of a pisshead and is so unprofessional that after 18 months of being out with a serious injury, not only is he back playing but he has been Arsenal's best player this season and will walk into the England squad. Correct me if i am wrong but i never saw pictures of Jack Wilshere putting on 2-3 stone of weight because he was out injured?

I also don't believe during his rehabilitation he was out most nights till the early hours drinking, gambling and ending the night with a donner kebab before not getting out of bed for work in the morning.

So yes, Jack Wilshere is a shining example of how a young player with the world at his feet
should behave and apply himself in his work when he is out of action for a very long time regarldess of whether he is a nasty so or so when out and about.

Thing is Wilshire is back playing football for a top club, Johnso is in dixies chicken? If Johnson enjoyed a piss up whilst trying to recover and actually came back then fine. Hard to compare when one is playing week in week out and the other isnt.

People keep trying to compare Johnson to Lake aswell? Why? If Johnson had gone off the rails because he had officially retired from the game and couldn't play I would understand but he's always been this way despite making comebacks!!

Yes but A) the golf thing was never proven apart from someone claiming they won $1.25 million over a round of golf once. B) the man was probably making near on $1 million a week, its not like the bum they lent $20,000 to its a guaranteed high making loan
Obviously if any of it is true at all

Exactly! I couldn't give a rats arse what players get up to in the week as long as it doesn't effect their performances. When you are paying someone £35k, £30k per week and they are injured the least you expect them to do is to apply themselves and do everything they can to get back whilst they are contracted to the club and earning a wage in a week the vast majority don't earn in a year.

Is Jack Rodwell out getting pissed most nights at the moment? He's always injured and having set backs.

Well said what these athletes are "worth" does not mean they have a cash card and can walk to a cash point and withdraw $500 million. It means if he was to sell all his assets his shares his stake in Nike(Jordan), image rights, pension funds investments and other assets he would have $500 million. Its not liquid capital he can just access at the press of a button.

-- Tue Jan 15, 2013 4:03 pm --

Ok what of Charles Barkley who used to play the rounds with Michael.

Charles Barkley
Long-time friends with Jordan, Barkley has been just as dedicated as a gambler. In 2006, he told ESPN that he lost $10 million due to the habit — including $2.5 million in six hours while playing blackjack and $700,000 during a Super Bowl weekend — stating that “It is a problem for me,” though he said he would continue gambling. Two years later, The Wynn in Las Vegas sued him for $400,000 for unpaid gambling markers, causing him to publically declare “I’m not going to gamble anymore” on TNT’s NBA playoff pregame show. Not exactly known for his willpower, it’s doubtful that Barkley has stayed the course.

Its a quick way to go broke.

What an absolute shame and even more so for the amount of judgement from people that don't actually have any facts.

Good luck to the lad, I certainly hope he can find stability and happiness in his life and do something positive to turn it around.

I don't care how much money he was getting, it's what we hold within us that matters, not what is outside of us, like money, materialistic bollocks or admiration.

Yeah but even without investments I bet Jordan could still produce around $100 million in liquid finance
The guy still spends most of his days in The Mirage hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada

The IRS tends to get a bit suspicious if you withdraw $100 million and it just sorta disappears as the bulk of his gambling would have been illegal. It isn't like Europe here.

Jordan has a brand that produces over a billion a year for Nike that's why I said he can bounce back from heavy losses. If he does not change his ways Johnson has already seen his best contract and he does not have endorsements or other cash streams to fall back on. If like those who know him have claimed he was gambling BEFORE the injuries and drinking, living recklessly I doubt he has much left.

He is young he can turn it around if he works hard.
