Michael Johnson.....

A lot of it has got to be to do with his character? As much as i've dreamed of playing for City, and still do despite being 43 with fucked knees, I would personally have no chance copeing with the pressure, expectation, and particularly the media/public attention that comes with being a top notch footballer.

I live in Newcastle and never seen an injured footballer out in town oh wait a minute.......

Think about it, abdominal injuries, out getting pissed.....

Fair enough if it was a hamstring injury but he's drinking alcohol whilst suffering with his abdomen, surely not doing his injury any good??[

Not sure what your trying to say,

You replied saying you've never seen a player injured out in town implying that footballers go out on piss with injuries, I simply explained why I don't think under the circumstances of his absence (being an abdominal injury) that drinking alcohol was appropriate and that he clearly didn't give a fuck when injured or fit he would still go out get hammered and have a kebab on way home when most players make a effort to get back to fitness!!

Anyway my personal opinion on the matter is I feel fuck all for him met him a few times in town on the piss first time I met him was after his debut against Wigan (not straight after that is) when know one in the clubs knew who he was and he was sound let on to you and gave the thumbs up when you shouted "City" a nice lad, then after he made a few more appearances in the first team he turned into a right cock not even interested in the fans that paid his wages and this was still before he was being harassed in clubs, maybe the odd few City lads that's about it!

He was plagued with injuries which is unfortunate and I would of felt sorry for the lad had he stuck to his training regime and made it look like he was trying his best to get back to full fitness. Players get injures all the time season injuries even year and a half injuries and not once have I seen a player balloon up like Johno, he gave up well before his loan to Leicester and I was really made up for him when he came on against Scunthorpe and scored (a belter) I fooled myself into believing he had beaten his demons and kicked in whatever it was he was doing that was holding him back but then after Scunthorpe he was never seen again in a City shirt!!

Realistically, few of these people have really seen him in town falling out of nightclubs. It's just the world we live in - people want to be seen or known to have been half-near famous people. Their mate's mate's stories become their stories. They read things on Twitter and believe them. Spotting him once becomes a few times. Him having a pint in his hand becomes him stumbling and drooling. 99% of what idiots say about any famous person's fabricated, or second-hand info, or details have been added to give them more kudos with their pals.

I know a lot of people who support City, and most of them live in Manchester. In the time since Johnson became a regular, i've heard of him being spotted once. That was in a pub during his spell out. He was sat down, having a quiet conversation with a couple of mates, had two pints, then they all left quitely. Within a week details of this story elsewhere had snowballed and he was allegedly pissed, shouting from the rooftops and had to be carried out of the place.

Maybe the lad hasn't helped himself, we don't know for sure. Maybe he's just fucking heartbroken that a promising career's been snatched from him due to injuries. Either way, people constantly gossiping about it doesn't help. To me, it doesn't really matter what the truth is. He was and is one of us, and we as fans should give him the benefit of the doubt. It's not worked out, for whatever reason, but it's not that important for us as a club. What' important is he gets over the end of his football career, moves on, and is in a good frame of mind. Us speculating about the whys and what fors from now on isn't going to do him any favours, neither is idiots coercing him into photos and plastering them over Twitter.

What training regime was he on? My understanding was, he was on prescribed steroids to try and aide a recovery which makes u ballon up. Not condoning his drinking but you never know what psychological effect serious injury has on someone's mind

i saw him jogging in urmston in full city training gear about 7 oclock tonight. good luck the lad i say. hope he can get a career at a lower level.

Don't think Michael Johnson can , in any way , be surprised at the eventual outcome .... the club couldn't wait forever , and he couldn't really expect them to ...... the controversy he's been involved in away from the club could only have added to the clubs frustration.

It may well make him think harder about getting back into shape , and taking the game seriously , at least i hope it does .......

Real real shame this has turned out how it has, because he really did have an unbelievably good career (both club and country) ahead of him. It must be so difficult knowing, that you will never be able to a job you love and one you depend on, due to bad injuries, and you can see why he has gone like he has (earning big money etc etc), and maybe the only way he can block out the pain of not being able to play, is by drinking and It's such a shame if this is the case and surely the club could help to get him straight. It just goes to show that life is not all rosey for all footballers, and at times can be a very lonely and cruel profession to be in. Get well soon Michael, and I have fond memories of your short but talented career with us. C.T.I.D..

i see him out and about quite regularly and sadly the stories of his drinking to excess are true. the amount i saw him drink on one particular sunday night, when on loan at leicester was actually quite staggering. such a waste of talent.
