Under the the surface, it's a brutal, racist, colonial occupying power that regularly imprisons without charge or trial, shoots children dead for throwing stones and practices an apartheid that would make the South African racists (whom the Israelis propped up and supported for decades despite international sanctions) blush.

I think your definition of "civilised" might need a revisit.

I'm pretty sure Israel is a terrorist state, In fact I'm 100% certain of it. Just because the Americans, Brittish and others countries haven't the bollocks to label them as so doesn't mean they aren't.

Well done, because that is a lot of people's definition of "civilised".
If you're white, with a European or North American background, wear a suit, speak English, pay a lip service to the Western idea of a democratic ideal then that is enough for you to be considered civilised regardless of how barbaric, duplicitous, genocidal, racist they may be.
Once you're in that club, you may go round the world bombing other people's countries in the name of establishing democracy, killing their civilians in millions in the name of collateral damage, taking away other people's land and giving it to "more developed race" that has landed on their shores from the other side of the world, you may also take away their children and give them to white families so they can bring them up in a civilised way and you put these native people in small reservations do they can rot and wither out of sight, but best of all, you present a narrative through your pliant and compliant media that labels the victims as terrorists because they won't lie down and let the lovely, soft, cuddly civilised white people get on with taking over their country and wipe out the indigenous population all the while going round the world lecturing the rest of the world on freedom democracy and human rights.

I don't think anyone is claiming any "equivalence". Each party is nasty in its own way.

No equivalence of course but Israel doesn't need to take hostages when it can just detain people without trial. Attacking villages and killing unarmed civilians is wrong, it's just the scale of it that isn't "equivalent".

Stories from the Thai captives who were released today suggest they were "well" treated: food, water, medical care. Maybe it depends which terrorists you were unlucky enough to get captured by. An inexcusably horrible experience, of course, especially for the children but, tbh, I thought they would all be dead at the end of this.
