Middle East Conflict

The Just Stop Oil protests never achieved anything except for universal hatred from the general public because of their (illegal) methods.

Do have a car? If so would you be personally okay with Just Stop Oil lying in front of your drive so you couldn't get to work? Of course you wouldn't, so why should office workers and this bank be subjected to intimidation and damage to their workplace?

At the end of the day the line is drawn if a protester breaks the law and trashing a building is criminal damage period.
That may be. But that wasn't the issue we were discussing. He basically claimed they had the wrong target, meaning that he still would have had the same criticism had they just stood outside with placards.

And no, I don't have a car. I take the train. And yes, I have fully supported strikes when they've inconvenienced me.

Intimidation is an odd claim, incidentally. Is there any evidence of them specifically intimidating people who happen to work in the building, or do you just happen to find a bit of paint and a couple of people engaging in a publicity stunt intimidating personally?

Ah, I see. You can protest as long as you do it in a certain designated area and inconvenience no-one, including those who you're protesting against. It's kinda like the Just Stop Oil protests. People say "Why are you protesting at the tennis/art gallery/snooker? Go after the real polluters." And then when protesters go after the actual 'culprits,' they still get criticised. It's almost like people criticise the tactics as a cover for criticising a protest they disagree with.

As for your first question, well you're talking about it, so clearly it has highlighted the issue. If they'd done it in Piccadilly Gardens, I guarantee not only would you not be discussing it now, you wouldn't have even heard about it. It would have been lost in the sea of other Palestine-related protests, and no-one would know about this particular bank's investments.

I also don't get this "most of the people who work there don't work for this bank" argument. If I was in New York and I wanted to protest against Donald Trump, and I decided to go to Trump Tower to do it, would it be relevant that most of the offices are rented out to other companies?
That’s not what I said…I just mentioned Piccadilly gardens as it’s a visible space where a number of demonstrations happen. It’s a pretty normal suggestion.

We’re not talking about the issue though because of these protests. I’m talking about ordinary people being inconvenienced by it. You’ve brought up just stop oil protests - they just ended up pissing off loads of people. I don’t think that helped their cause at all.

you don’t get my last point? I’m trying to say they are holding a protest in a building where the vast majority of people who work there don’t work for that company. I think that is relevant.

They’re holding regular protests in spinning fields and every other Friday they’ve stormed a building and stopped ordinary people going to work. The majority of people outside and inside don’t have a clue what they are protesting about. I’m just questioning how is that going to help their cause.there’s a company we don’t like so therefore we’ll shutdown the entire building and stop people from working.

I’d still like to know what throwing paint and blocking an entrance to a building is going to achieve.

You seem to be ok with protesters doing anything they want and not considering the consequences of it, especially to normal people.
