Middle East Conflict

Football until recently has always kept free of politics. The nearest it ever got was Remembrance Day. It’s a sad day for football imo. Once it starts it will escalate, the game should be the focus, the football ground should be sacrosanct politics and religion should be left out imo.
Nonsense. The media and the top politicians are full of people who are quite happy to turn a blind eye to genocide and israel breaking international law on a daily basis. Football (and other things) give people the chance to speak up. It gives people a voice

Interestingly a lot of the same people turning a blind eye to the bombing of hospitals, schools, children, women etc on a daily basis are "outraged" at last nights events, and seemingly only able to speak up for one side whilst completely ignoring that a large group of tel aviv hooligans went on the rampage (and not for the first time) attacking people and places in amsterdam and then had their arses handed to them (guess they're not so tough when they're not blowing small children up from a safe distance).

Israel said themselves that they're ethnically cleansing northern gaza two days ago (or have already done so, in fact) - which should be front page news everywhere and everyone should be speaking up against that because everyone knows it's wrong and we all know that never again should mean never again for everyone, but barely a peep about it from western media

At least 39 Palestinians have been killed and 123 wounded in Israeli attacks across Gaza in the past 24 hours, mostly women and children. This has been a daily event for over a year, and barely a peep, but a few people injured at a football game and it's "outrage" and suddenly people take a casual interest for a short amount of time again

Shame. Genocide

So you're quite OK with Jews being attacked simply because they're Jews are you Alex?

I don’t agree that football grounds are the place to bring this up. Outside Government buildings of countries involved. Please don’t call my posts nonsense it’s a disagreement.

Ajax, like Spurs, are known as a 'Jewish' club for various reasons. The attacks on Israelis seem to have taken place outside the stadium, apparently involving groups of Arabs.

Ironic that some of those vehemently decrying attacks on innocent Palestinians are disgustingly cheering this attack on Jews, just for being Jews, who may have all sorts of varying views on what's happening in Gaza & Lebanon. Some of you are utterly abhorrent.

If Bluemoon had been around in the 1930's, the aftermath of Kristallnacht would have been interesting.
Respectfully PB, that comparison in your last line is absolutely ludicrous, though I appreciate why you feel the way you do and I don't want to belittle those emotions at all.

The violence against Maccabi fans is absolutely unacceptable, as was the apparent violence of some of those fans in the nights before, and in earlier incidents this year e.g. when they beat an Arab man unconscious in Athens when they were there for a fixture, against Olympiacos I think it was. That incident, and the incidents in Amsterdam, went viral on social media. The people who attacked those Israeli fans undoubtedly saw those videos, along with the hundreds of images and videos of slaughtered children that have been circulating over the last year. Some Tel Aviv fans singing songs about all those dead children probably hits very hard for many people against that background.

This context has to be taken into account if we want to understand what happened and why. Not to mention the more general reality of football hooliganism across Europe which we've all been exposed to to some degree here and there over the years. Comparisons to pogroms, especially the November pogrom when around a hundred people were killed and multiple synagogues and other buildings totally destroyed, I think are not helpful.

It's a relentless situation for them and I have sympathy.

Hamas are scum. Ordinary palestinians (i presume) are just normal folk. Albeit persecuted.

But Hamas brought this on them, although it hasn't been great for them for years they really have made it worse. I don't know what the answer is.
Aye, everything was rosy before Hamas came along, as we all know.

Sorry but in my opinion the IDF Nazis are worse than scum. Deliberately murdering defenceless innocent women and children.

We are witnessing ethnic cleansing by Israel, clearly genocide, with the US being just as guilty in facilitating the IDF operations.

The answer you are looking for is an immediate ceasefire and allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Without this happening, Remembrance Sunday services are a sick mockery of the sacrifices made by those who died fighting Nazism.

The Palestinian Holocaust is being perpetrated right now by Israeli forces using every evil action the Nazis ever
used against the Jews.

Thank you Al Jazeera correspondents for your bravery in bringing the truth from Gaza.
