Middle East Conflict

More deflection, the sort of shit Russia propaganda and military bloggers come out with. This neo-Zionist tendency to see only good in Israel actions is as much the problem as Hamas. No one is coming out of this with the moral high ground and both sides should hang their collective heads in shame.

Keeping a lid on this to stop it going regional is going to be some miracle.

How is asking for proof deflection?

Strategically speaking it benefits Hamas to keep people in the area. Hence them telling people to stay. It makes what ever Israel does next harder to do, and builds more anti Israel sentiment in the likes of helzbolla to join in, which to me feels like Hamas/Iran/maybe even Russia’s ( zero proof, but a hunch on my part ) end game at this point, to create a much wider war in the region.

I’m not picking sides. I feel the way Israel handle things is an abomination and frankly what they are doing and have been doing for years feels like they are writing the handbook on how to build extremists.

That with that being said it’s entirely possible that Israel did do it. But we need to look for proof on all sides rather than jumping to random conclusions as to who did what.

How we verified video of strike on fleeing Palestinians

We've been reporting that at least 12 people, including young children, have been killed in a strike on a Palestinian convoy fleeing northern Gaza via a designated evacuation route.
We were able to do this because of video footage from the aftermath of the strike, which we verified the location of.
Understanding when and where a piece of video was filmed is key part of understanding major developments in conflicts like this.
At BBC Verify we analysed two videos of the strike on a convoy of vehicles heading towards southern Gaza. The videos are highly disturbing, with images of numerous dead bodies - including young children - that are far too graphic to show.
However, they also offer details as to the location of the incident.
We knew that the 45-km Salah al-Deen road, which runs north to south across Gaza, is being used as one of the main evacuation routes. Local reports also suggested the strike had occurred on this road.
The footage shows a central reservation and several buildings whose aerial profile and arrangement we were able to match to a particular section of the road.

They verified that the strike happened and its location which no one is arguing. They didn’t verify who fired the missile which is what this discussion is about.

I'm missing something here. There's no doubt a deadly strike occurred on one of the two evacuation routes. But there's nothing to suggest who carried it out.

It happened. Yes, I'm able to watch a picture. What exactly happened and who did what and why? Not a clue.

Actually I find that concept of 'BBC verify' quite poor, as it pretends to know the 'truth' compared to media competitors when in reality they know fuck all like all the rest in this bloody mess until we see a proof of which we can expect not to be fake.
Humans are lying to their individual/national advantage, no matter what side. That's our fundamental problem.

Not sure I’d agree with that, the whole point is it doesn’t pretend to know the truth, it only reports on what it can verify (hence why there’s no mention of who did it).

The papers this week have been a prime example where plenty in the media run with a story or state them as fact before they’re fully verified. Even if they subsequently print a correction, it’ll be a small paragraph buried somewhere and the incorrect sentiment based on the original story will continue to remain for a lot of people.
