Middle East Conflict

our Home Secretary seemed to think they was at least a possibility. The cenotaph at Rochdale had been desecrated but I don’t know who by.
Slight point of order, there are only 2 cenotaphs in the country.

Rochdale has a war memorial, mistakenly known as a cenotaph.

“There are only two cenotaphs in Britain. There is the one in Whitehall, London and the other one is in Aberdare, Wales. All other war monuments in Britain are war memorials. Service on the Saturday immediately before Remembrance Sunday.”

I honestly believe you are wrong. Sadly this thread has become a parody of the actual conflict and is possibly why resolution is a long way off. It is clear that there are Jewish people posting,Arab/Muslim people posting with deeply held convictions. But I guess most people on the thread are neither, but have a view that may be unpalatable to one or other side. I do not believe there is hatred here as we are all Blues and will support City and am sure at a match would all shake hands. But research, reasoned debate, is more interesting than bickering over words and definitions, rather than scoring points.
It’s why there is a perpetual conflict happening.

No debate can be had. It gets stuck on having to label everything.

Heywood 100% has a Cenotaph within its memorial gardens.

They are certainly hated for being Zionists as can be seen from the language being used.

From that I’d say yes, they are hated for being Jewish.

Zionist has become a slur on here, a dirty word I’m afraid.
That's an insupportable post.

The IHRA definition studiously avoided the word Zionism or Zionist. I suspect that's because Zionism is such a varied concept with different and opposing ideas. Even if it just means "a national home for Jews" then historically that wasn't necessarily in Palestine, and once determined to be in Palestine then it became about how much of Palestine (with some Zionists today still talking about Israel not just being from the river to the sea but from the Nile to the Euphrates).

As many Gentile supporters of early Zionism were antisemitic, and many opponents of Zionism were Jews, it's even harder to conflate attitudes to Zionism with attitudes to Jewish people.

That's what Aberdare thinks.

In my eyes, this conflict is nothing to do with religion and all about land, or the lack of it. One side gets squeezed and inflicts mass damage to one side followed by the other side doing the same.

Both are victims, as in the people, and both are culpable, as in the chosen governments.

And that’s fine, but it’s not why the debate doesn’t go anywhere. It’s shot down on labelling everything.
