Middle East Conflict

Israel to turn over the Gaza strip to usa once fighting concludes! Best get sone body bags ready for USA troops then, this is really going to go tits up now.
Incoming, WWIII.

I’m hoping this is just another Trump sow confusion and see what responses we get kind of thing and nothing comes of it.

He's posted this - I'm not sure the timeline makes any sense, and what's Chuck Schumer got to do with anything:
The Gaza Strip would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting. The Palestinians, people like Chuck Schumer, would have already been resettled in far safer and more beautiful communities, with new and modern homes, in the region. They would actually have a chance to be happy, safe, and free. The U.S., working with great development teams from all over the World, would slowly and carefully begin the construction of what would become one of the greatest and most spectacular developments of its kind on Earth. No soldiers by the U.S. would be needed! Stability for the region would reign!!!

and in a long post, the Israel defence minister has posted this - what is the legal obligation?

"Countries such as Spain, Ireland, Norway, and others, which have falsely accused Israel over its actions in Gaza, are legally obligated to allow Gazans to enter their territory,"

We’re obliged to take their ethnically cleansed citizens?

We’re obliged to take their ethnically cleansed citizens?

Well there was this duo that worked together for the ethnic cleansing (of Jedis), and control of the outer rim of business and slavery by the Hutts

If ever there is a real-world couple….

What do the people who live there want? Anyone ask them?
I’m sure anyone applying for a working visa here voluntarily would be accommodated favourably but endorsing the forcible cleansing of Gaza with open arms is not something I think any nation should do.

If you want an understanding of why the Irish, rightly or wrongly, view Israeli actions since the state’s inception the way we/they do, have a read of the attached link.
I agree with much of the criticism of De Valera but don’t agree with the ant-Semitic reasoning or slant that current Israeli administration tries to muddy the waters with.

For reasons best known to himself, Trump decided during the election campaign to insult Schumer by calling him a Palestinian, presumably because he was insufficiently supportive of Israel's various war crimes (although in actual fact like most mainstream Democrats, he was very supportive).

Now he's doing that classic Trump callback thing when his addled, senile brain remembers an insult from a previous round and just inserts it mid-flow.

There is no legal obligation, it's complete bollocks. To be honest, I would argue that if anything it's the countries that armed and supported the carpet bombing that have an obligation to help the refugees created as a result. But that's not a question of law, just morality - not something with which Katz is very familiar.

my question was very much on the 'huh? what obligation?" angle.

It didn't seem likely to me.

CNN: Israel backs Trump plan and orders military to prepare for Palestinians to leave Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed US President Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" Gaza, as Israel's army was ordered to prepare plans for large numbers of Palestinians to leave the territory.

Trump's plan triggered an enormous backlash, with leaders from the Middle East and beyond rejecting it as unworkable and illegal.

But Netanyahu insisted the plan - which Trump said would involve sending Gaza's residents to neighboring countries and taking "long-term ownership" of the enclave - was a "remarkable idea."

"The actual idea of allowing first Gazans who want to leave to leave, I mean, what is wrong with that?" he told Fox News Wednesday, adding that those who leave the strip "can come back."

"This is the first good idea that I've heard. It's a remarkable idea and I think it should be really pursued, examined, pursued, and done because I think it will create a different future for everyone," added Netanyahu.

......

The proposal raises the question of whether Palestinians could forcefully be removed from their home, and breaks with decades of US foreign policy, which has long emphasized a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

White House officials have also attempted to walk back many of the details, after critics pointed out that Trump's plan could set US troops once again into the heart of a war in the Middle East.

Some Republican lawmakers attempted to make sense of the comments in a closed-door meeting with Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, on Wednesday. One lawmaker in the room told CNN there was "a lot of consternation."

......

On Thursday, Trump returned to the idea, writing on his Truth Social network that Gaza "would be turned over to the United States by Israel at the conclusion of fighting" in the territory and that no US soldiers would be needed. He gave no further details on how the plan would work.

Noticed a few sites running with the story of Trump Twice stipulating 1.7 Million Palistinians will have to leave. So folk are now convinced there could be 500'000 Palistinians murdered. I know the figure of around 184'000 has been banded about. But could Half a Million really of been slaughtered?

I have read that large numbers did manage to escape out to Egypt. There are ways to be smuggled out, for people with money, or in some cases people with second passports could leave. I don't know the numbers but it would account for part of the drop in population. But not all of it.

Given the scale of the destruction, or demolition, nothing would surprise me. It would be helpful if one of the press pack sought a clarification on this. Having said that I did see a suggestion (can't remember where) that some Palestinians would remain.

Maybe the idea is to create another bantustan, possibly Gaza City which judging by the hostage release footage appears to have some buildings still standing. That would mirror the apartheid policies imposed in the West Bank where the indigenous people are corralled into the major population centres and becoming increasingly isolated from one another.

Yet still people utter the phrase....
