Mike dean was fantastic best ref performance I’ve seen in a long time

Mike Dean: Not often you can say it, but outstanding.

Even Mike Dean behaved, was fair with decisions and no silly mistakes

Disappointed with how much Mike Dean let them get away with. Constant fouls, and no cards

Never thought I’d see the day when I voted good for a game reffed by Mike Dean but here we are.

I have to say, Mike Dean was fine today.

I take your point but there is almost always a correlation between amount of possession and fouls conceded in prem games. I was there last night and from my (slightly biased view) it appeared that every time we lost the ball he gave a foul against us for even attempting to win it back. There was a clear inconsistency and Villa players needed to almost commit GBH to have a foul given against them.

Yeah I did say I thought he was clearly inconsistent. On the possession side, I was just saying there wasn’t necessarily always a correlation, particularly when teams sit off to counter it more, which happens to us more than anyone.

Did you find the first post by Doug Ellis's Secret Son which said:
'I know a great way to wind up the City fans. Go on to their Blue Moon forum and make comments that Dean was pretty good. Not too praising though as they will know its a wind up and because every one knows Dean is a useless ****'.

Was his usual self last night but he could have given half a dozen additional bookings when we committed rather cynical fouls immediately after losing possession.

The pen claim for Villa as you say wasn't a pen but still not correct as he gave a corner but once again should have been a goal kick.
It is a really interesting microcosm of refereeing and VAR today that incident. It was obviously not a corner so why did VAR not correct it? Presume it is out of their remit, but if Villa had scored from the corner that would have been bonkers. VAR and how it does or does not interact with decisions on the field has made the laws of the game increasingly complex and generates some scenarios which clash quite strongly with the initial intention of it: to right obviously wrong decisions

It's not in the remit for the Champions League, either, but it was clearly used on one occasion in one of our recent matches to deliver the correct method of restart. It they spot something whilst using VAR, then use it to give the correct decision regardless of the remit.

VAR - "No penalty, but the Villa player touched it last, so restart with a goal kick." It's bonkers to do otherwise.
