Mike "I'm a Celebrity" Dean

"We had a game plan for that day"

Since when have referees had their own match tactics rather than just officiate the laws of the game?

This is the one thing that jarred with me when I heard it. How can you plan for incidents that you haven't a fucking clue are gonna happen? I often wonder whether they are musing in their own minds that if a forward goes down in the area I'm giving it/not giving it, if it's a handball in the area I'm not giving the pen, but if it's outside I'm giving it, and if Player X starts yapping then I'll give him twenty chances to shut up before I book him, and hopefully I can blow for full time when he's on nineteen!

For the word 'plan' substitute 'manipulate'!

I think you're taking a far too specific definition of any plan. I doubt it's to do with enforcing rules which are clear, but more setting markers on the day of what is a foul.

I think it is more about knowing how certain things might pan out...notorious full back against pacey winger, keep an eye out linesman. Or, so and so likes to back into the defender and then go down to get a foul as if the defender has come into his back.

Oh wait, that last one is every forward ever and every ref still gives it! My bad!

And, I don’t mind Dean. He is just mental enough that I think he doesn’t care and just gives it as he sees it...and I like that he is a passionate fan of a lower league team, not a pretend Alty fan so he can still get his jollies meeting his idols in red!

I've grown less fond of what the fucker is seeing. He's often at variance with what message my prescription lenses are sending to my brain cells, and I often think these refs who stick their colours to the mast of a team that would only get onto PiGMOL's radar when said referee had been six feet under for fifty years, are working a subterfuge, a flanker, a smokescreen.

Slowly, but surely...more and more fans are working out what the modern game is all about.
I saw it ,clear as day ,Anthony Taylor with his ear peice instruction not to send off Luiz after his foul on Sergio....this was pre-var.City v Chelsea etihad stadium, few years baaach
I effectively walked away from watchng live football that afternoon.after 30years home and away.i ve watched from a distance as more and more City fans open their eyes.i took a trip to the lane Sunday, just fancied a look at the new ground.pre match little had changed.Once a ball was kicked ..the same old shenanigans....not blaming the ref for our loss.thats down to City...,just the ridiculously long wait for the pen.The games gone mad.So much deception ,deliberation (7second delays on telivised football..?)and deceipt.its appalling.
I really enjoyed bumping into old time Blues id not seen for a while..Pat from Cheltenham supporters branch, sean riley,Simonj, big Paul Bevan,Ricky from Peterborough ,stuart kelly etc etc ...great to see old mates, but modern premier league rigged football...not for me..

To be honest mate, I thought that was down to us keeping the ball for so long straight after the incident and VAR had long since made their mind up that it was a pen but were perhaps waiting to see if we'd score a goal from that spell of possession. Thing is - we kept the ball for fucking ages! As soon as there was a halt in play, the pen was awarded so I don't think on that occasion it disrupted the flow of the game as so often has happened this season with VAR.

Anyway, great to see you and fully empathise with your feelings about the way the game is going. That Taylor incident you mention still grates my gears as well.

Still one of the most corrupt refereeing decisions I've seen since a certain Alf Grey was in "charge" v the Dippers in the League Cup semi final all those years ago.

Plus ca change, plus la meme chose.
