Millwall v city Rivalry

A question for our older posters, when did our rivalry become so heated/violent they seem to hate us with a passion?

Don't think there is a rivalry with "millwarl". There was abit of aggro when we played them in the late 90's early 00's because we were the biggest team in their league,

Seem to recall Citys Guvnors/Mayne Line late 80s having a pop at Millwall and this was reported in the press that City ambushed Millwall after the game somewhere in London.Told a Millwall fan about this when on holiday once and of course he denied it as he assured me he was there - looked like Danny Dyer as well.

Think also that us both being in Div 3 did not help.

Yea i know we've had a bit of aggro over the last ten years, but i was thinking something must of happened years ago that as always stuck in their memorys.

We never played them at all through the 70s and most of the 80s, as mentioned earlier there was a bit of trouble at their place in 87/88 which I think was the first time we'd played them in over 20 years so maybe that sparked a bit of rivalry between the "firms".

Tbh, Millwall just don't like any club that takes a sizeable following to their patch.
