Milner back in midfield

Personally, given our struggles in midfield so far this season, I would sacrifice one of the front four to bolster the middle of the park against the better teams in the league.

Either Jimmy or Jack should play in front of the back four, IMHO. I think Rodwell just shades it for me because of his extra height. However, considering his injury record, I reckon Milner will play his share of games too.

......................Rodwell..........

Fernandinho................YaYa

Silva.................Agüero

....................Negredo..............

Alfie deserves his chance to start because his goal return / minutes played so far this season is excellent and Kun's ability to conjure a goal out of a half chance means he is worth his place in the side.

Navas and Jovetić have yet to prove they are good enough to displace Merlin.
The problem with our team is that we keep trying to force on 2 strikers. Drop one and play one, if we are in need late, add another.

Negredo up top
Silva and Navas on the wings

Yaya and Dihno in the middle

Rodwell as the base.

That is you front 6.

Re: Milner back in midfield

People going on about others being biased that can't see Yaya do any wrong? Don't make me laugh. He looks more lethargic now than I've ever seen him. He looks out of shape and uninterested in anything apart from free kicks.
How many times against Hull in the first half did he bang one to far going straight out for a goal kick? 5 or 6 easy, that if they had been accurate could have been easy goals.
Really think there is is something in his contract stopping him from being dropped - it's madness!

-- Fri Sep 13, 2013 12:43 am --

And before you shoot me down tell me he doesn't frustrate you at all?

He does. But I'll take his passing, control of the game and now free kicks, over anything we have.

How disappointing.......i thought you might have come up with some tactical master stroke given your previous comment and the fact Yaya and Fernandinho, together, have looked shakier than a shitting dog.

Personally

--------Negredo------
Jovetic---Silva----Navas
--Fernandinho--Rodwell--

Works for me.

Would love to see this happen.
Got to be a wind up..drop yaya for rodwell?!!!

For one game, yes. A hungry and eager to impress Rodwell might make Yaya try a bit harder. His energy would be a welcome addition to our midfield.
Rotation is okay, and something we will constantly live with. But for some reason Yaya seems to be excluded from this, no matter how knackered he appears.

Re: Milner back in midfield

Yaya has looked knackered to me from from the day we signed him yet up he pops to win us in the semi to get us to Wembley, up he pops at Wembley to win us the cup, up he pops at Newcastle to help win us the league!

There is a reason for this, he is quality. It is up to the manager to get the best out of him, that is what he is paid for.

Rodwell and Milner wouldnt not get anywhere near Chelsea's first team let alone their central midfield area.

If anything the issue is we either havent bought well enough (Time will tell) or the manager is playing the wrong formation.

Re: Milner back in midfield

Good central midfielder. Won't know whether our new style of play will suit him in centre mid until we try it.

Whatever the weather, I'd probably want him in our midfield at stoke in some way
