Milner back in midfield

Re: Milner back in midfield

Fernandinho plays ahead of Yaya. People need to forget about this desire to have Yaya in an "advanced role", it's not going to happen, he's best from deep.

Re: Milner back in midfield

I like Jimmy, a lot. I Hope he gets a chance to play a good amount. With our lineup as of late, we only had 2 true midfielders who will fulfill defensive assignments (Yaya and Dinho). Playing Silva and Navas with them makes it 4-2-4 too often. I'd start Milner ahead of Navas next game and would use Navas off the bench.

Milner is a wide man, simple as that. Not a CM, not good enough to play CM in our side unless it's an emergency.

I'd drop Yaya for Milner too.
Lol, pathetic it really is. Yaya is one of the best controllers in the world, and you want him dropped. Some people just have no idea about football.

Spot on fella

The very thought of Milner at centre mid is laughable, he'd have to learn to pass 5 yards to a blue shirt first...... He's a belting squad player, undeniable committing and a real pro but it's like saying start Paul dickov ahead of Sergio!!

Milner is clearly nowhere near as technically gifted as Yaya but he's more gifted than Stoke's midfield and has the work rate to match. Brilliant footballers can often be nullified by sheer effort and desire of an opponent if they don't match it. If this wasn't true the underdog would never win.

I can see both sides of this argument. But in your defence, Roy Keane was a bit shit in terms of footballing ability (as well as being a complete twat of course) but one hell of a player who would walk into most sides simply because of his authority he stamped on the game and influence on the other players. There is an awful lot more to it than technical ability.

Re: Milner back in midfield

I think people need to get out of the idea that Toure is an attacking midfielder. He's not and will never be a #10. He's supposed to sit in front of the defense AND DEFEND. He's not supposed to make 40 yard runs. He's not a box to box midfielder. He's simply an excellent defensive midfielder whom we're accustomed to see attacking. He's being granted far too much freedom. I don't like to hear people complain about how he's "always out of position" when really and truly he shouldn't be given license to leave. We keep trying to make him Gerrard when he's more of a Xavi than anything else.

Now Milner is a good player. Very much so. But imo he doesn't have a great deal of consistency with his passing. The problem with Milner is that he isn't our best option at RM, neither is he the best option in the middle. An idea that I like is to use Milner at RB. How many times does Zabaleta find himself in space to cross and just passes behind or square? Or how many times does Zaba find himself one on one? I think that Milner at RB could revolutionize that side of our attack.

I disagree mate, its a complete myth.

Yaya is an average to very good defensive midfielder for us in my opinion, he only looked good there for Barcelona because he had Messi, Xavi and Iniesta in front of him keeping possession, those three could play against a complete team themselves and would probably still have most of the ball.

He looks good for us when we have a Barry type who sweeps up for him.

What Yaya and Fernandinho need to do is increase their pressing levels in defence, if they let the opposition come on to them they struggle just as we have seen in the recent games.

I don't know what happend after the Newcastle game but our intensity levels in defensive pressure diminished quite significantly in my opinion, maybe it's because Vinny is not there leading the team, I don't know, but it's an aspect of our game that drastically needs improving at the moment.

Re: Milner back in midfield

I think Milner should start against Stoke, and probably United. We were overrun in midfield against Hull and could do with his energy and work rate. Navas might be better utilised as an impact substitute at present, brought on to stretch tiring defences rather than starting.

I hope so, if we just go with Yaya and Ferdandinho as a midfield 2 against Stoke away and the rags at home with this high defensive line they will cut through us like a knife through butter.

We have to play Milner and give some protection to the makeshift Centre Half pairing.

Just needs a chance in the middle and he could have a position in the side for the next 4-5 years. Will suit pellegrini's pressing style
