Milner's big chance

I love Barry but irreplaceable? You'd not have Schweinsteiger, Xavi, or Alonso instead of him? Barry has been one of our best players but is very much replaceable, there are better midfielders out there. Barry was amazing in the league but unimpressive in the Champions League last season, he's a very good player but not a top class midfielder like the above and Yaya are.

Barry is a GREAT DM but there's this dynamism and work rate that's lacking whenever he plays . He's very composed and calm in the midfield no doubt but i would prefer if we had a player in the mold of Ramires or Bayern's Luis Gustavo . I still think Barry plays an integral role in the team but he doesn't have age, pace or work rate on his side and it would be wise to bring in someone like Javi Martinez or Luis Gustavo .

would you have Milner in his place this year then?

I think Milner could easily be the long term replacement for Barry, always thought he operated better in the centre of the park instead of being hung out to dry on the wing.

i would. i dont know of a single player as good as barry at his job.

We'll soon have to think about finding one though,he's 32 in 6 months.....

just thought the same thing, we need to start looking soon. he's a fit lad so we have a year or two yet i reckon.

PLus, its not like he will lose his pace is it ..... :-)

Exactly.

Barry is a vital player for us, he has been fantastic in the league last season but he is still a limited player. I dont doubt for a second if de rossi came in for example he could do his job and much more.Milner on the other hand, i dont think he could replace barry, his defensive game just isn't up there yet. One of, if not the, best 'squad' player in the league though. Always happy to see him on the pitch but not sure he'll ever have the quality to be a starter.

Milner was a really good midfielder for Villa and hasn't been played in his best position for us much... but even Milner at his best is probably not good enough for the heights we aspire to. We need a really high end midfielder I believe or more realistically as the high end midfielders are probably not available, someone who looks like he's going to end up as one like Martinez. Barry still has a big part to play for us but I think very soon he is going to end up in the rotation role like De Jong is now, especially as he's nearly 32 and doesn't have the passing range to be one of those who can still boss games deep into their 30s like Pirlo and Scholes. We definitely need a better midfielder for our Champions League aspirations.
