Milner's big chance

Milner in a central role for us would be fantastic.

Wasted on the wing, and the little opportunities he's had in the centre he's been outstanding.

He's the best all around footballer in our squad, if were talking every attribute.

Barry isnt vital to the team. De Jong / Yaya can all do that job for the team so its no big lost for me. To be honest I think De Jong will come in and prove himself and win himself a long term contract we are safe in that area of the pitch for me. I wouldnt mind us getting another ball playing centre midfielder in there who can put it about a bit if needed.
Are you f*cking SERIOUS? Not vital... cmon give him some credit, he´s twice the player Nigel is. Nigel is pretty one dimensioal while Barry is a much better player all around. He gives the team stability keeps the ball moving quickly, puts out fires all around the pitch and allows us to attack as much as we do. There is a reason why Barry started 31 games last season and Nigel 11 and why people in the team voted for him as the seasons player. He was suberb last season, only Silva and Hart started more games than him, while Yaya, Vincent and Sergio started the same number of games as him. "Isen´t vital to the team" Haaaaaah

here are the stats if you like to take a look <a class="postlink" href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad/_/id/382/season/2011/league/eng.1/manchester-city?cc=5739" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://soccernet.espn.go.com/team/squad ... ty?cc=5739</a>

Despite the poor spelling and grammar, Nehe is absolutely spot on with the points he is making. Barry was absolutely instrumental to the way we played last year, and those suggesting Milner can come in and do the job as well or better because he's got "better work rate" simply don't understand football at this level.

exactly! how can anyone question Barrys work rate??
i stood and watched with admiration as barry fought for city in so many tricky away games..he had a blinder at ot under hughes when we lost, he worked his bollocks off at norwich last season, at wolves when we were nervy and edgy, barry pulled us through, against utd at home he was tactically briiliant...so many games this man has put his body on the line for city...anyone who doesn,t understand how vital he is to the team can,t possibly know football...really glad he came to city, one of my fav players, a true professional who never hides...and when the big games came around last season he was not found wanting in any of them.

When city beat chelsea 1-0 under mancini two years ago,Barrys performance that day was incredible..the tackling, the discipline, the positioning, the covering..he gives mancini exactly what he is looking for in centre midfield,in bobbys system.thats why he,s first on the team sheet when fit, thats why we are champions.

It's funny how general opinions of Barry have gone over the space of a couple of years from one extreme of him being completely underrated to the other where complete bias has kicked in by stating things like he is irreplaceable. Come on guys, he had a great season last season and is extremely consistent but he has his limits. His passing is pretty limited for a start.

He is vital in the squad we currently have, but he is certainly replaceable/upgradeable. And it is just as well really considering he is coming on 32. There are better players out there, it is just they are few and far between.

Silva voted for Barry as City Player of the Season. End of!

Unless, of course, one of you was operating in the midfield all season alongside him, and at training every day watching how intelligent he is, or other such precise insights?!

Barry is a class midfielder and would be a WORLD class midfielder if he has more pace than 7 for 90 minutes. However, 7 FOR 90 MINS is a godsend in the Prem for a playmaking DM. He is BRILLIANT and the ONLY place in "midfield" that is up for grabs in a fully fit squad is Nasri's position...because Silva, Yaya and Barry are actually PRE-PRINTED on the team sheet, along with Hart, Kompany and Agüero!!

What does more pace than 7 for 90 minutes mean?

A 7 out of 10.

The implication was that he is not the fastest player in the league, but he can go at about a 7 out of 10 for the full 90 minutes, and never gives up.

Sorry about that! Watching Sky Sports about Silva, writing on another Forum and this one at the same time, all while listening to music on iTunes is apparently one more ball in the air than I am able to juggle at 2 am!!

Barry has never had the consistanty needed in my opinion. Since he has come to the club his passing was always hit and miss. His lack of speed will only get worst cant get around the pitch gives away needless frees. I have never rated him and still dont. Any one can do that role as good or better than Barry. Out of the squad we have I could see Milner , De Jong , Yaya and even Zaba doing that role and doing a good job. We need to get on and move on from Barry at the Champions League level he is found wanting. I was shocked De Jong didnt get as many games last season. I would be more pissed seeing De Jong going if Barry went it wouldnt bother me. We need to be looking at other younger and more dynamic players. I think there are some talented players out there that maybe we should keep a eye on. James McCarthy at Wigan is 1 player we should be keeping a close eye in the coming years he is going to get better and better at Wigan. Look at how Martinez gets them to play McCarthy wouldnt look out of place in the City squad if he progresses this season only 21 a big club will take him from Wigan in the next season or 2.
