Minutes Appluase Yesterday.

Red in peace here (Season Ticket Stretford End)

We were well and truly outclassed yesterday you should have had 5 or 6. Anyway I just wanted to say respect to the lads with the Lee Rigby Flag how good is that considering Lee was a red as well

Total REspect from me to the City lads for that

Do you know them it was next to a Flag with Hyde blues on it ?

this is the Flag. Don’t know them but respect to them. Could be middy / Langley lads where Lee was from

Virtue signalling gone mad.

If you stand there respectfully and honourably maintaining silence in a dignified way, nobody notices you. If you clap and cheer and shout everyone can see that you are a virtuous person

This phenomenon reached its peak with the absurd hordes, pots and pans in hand, banging and braying their support for the underperforming NHS. Just be thankful that kitchen utensils aren’t allowed into football stadia.
embarrassing comments. .

Sorry, but I disagree There was no silence in EL3 and in most parts of the Etihad last Saturday. Only applause all the way through. In fact my son turned to me and asked "what happened to the minute's silence then ?" Its the first time we've not had an absolute 1 min silence for The Fallen at our ground. Really sad, IMHO. Unfortunately it's yet another sign of the way this world of ours is going.
I was in the south stand and you could hear a pin drop

Ubique

I'm not 100% sure but were we the only game that had an applause? I had all the saturday 3pm ko games on in the bars I have an interest in and dont recall anything but silence.
Gotta be honest, not a fan of the clapping for something like this. Some things deserve a moment of quiet reflection.
No, a few others did it. Most did the silence.
Stadium announcer should have specifically asked for it as to many people appear not to understand what's appropriate without being told.

You sound like a good lad....where the fuck did it all go wrong?

Should only ever be silence and it should only be on the 11th. The more frequently it's held the more diluted it becomes.

There was applause just before the Last Post and then the ref signalled for silence and that was observed.

This is not the first time that an international weekend has fallen close to the 11th, however, and even if there had been no international break, I don't think there would have been any commemoration after the 11th, this coming Thursday. That means with the current set up there would still have been commemorations in grounds on the 29th/30th/31st of October. For me, it's a national commemoration that should transcend locality, so this need for it to be marked at each individual ground each year seems a peculiarly modern adaptation. I've yet to read a compelling case for why that should be.
No one heard the announcement on Saturday because of all the chanting (the big red poppy and the teams lining up not being a big enough clue).

Etihad went quiet for the last post but that should signal the minute's silence but people applauded after the last post finished. (I said last time "When did we have the silence?") On Saturday the applause went on and you couldn't hear the bugler even though amplified.

Remembrance Sunday is always the Sunday nearest the 11th. It replaced Armistice Day (the 11th) as no-one was observing it. Silences on the 11th as well restarted as a one-off for the 50th anniversary of ww2 and the further we get from the events the more remembering seems demanded (remembrance "season" starting in October).

City were chosen a few years ago to launch the RB Legion's remembrance events, but it's now one of those "modern" ideas that every club has to do it.

It's either just part of the militarisation of society (why do we have a soldier carry out the FA Cup at the final?), or "silences" are so frequent that it diminishes (dilutes) the whole point of it. And historically, plenty of WW1 veterans were against "remembrance", either as the war was rather something to forget, or it perpetuated the "old lie" that it was sweet and fitting to die for your country.

Yeah, that was a bit weird. It wasn't even a minute's applause, it was more like 90 seconds because the fans started clapping before 'The Last Post' and just... carried on?

I think it's just a generational thing whereby people like me, who much prefer the poignancy of a minutes silence, are probably now in the minority.

It's the same with the original Christmas silence which slowly morphed into applause a few seasons ago, albeit not helped by supporters genuinely thinking that they were supposed to clap, when the individual names were read out on the PA.
