When we see how rich some football players are, we’re usually talking about the biggest stars in the world. If you compare them to average people, of course they’re going to seem super wealthy, and it will screw your perspectives. But if you compare them to the top people in other industries, it’s a different story. Think about the richest people in the world. Where are Messi and Ronaldo on that list? Nowhere to be seen. Try to compare the net worth of the bottom in the top 200 richest to the net worth of Messi, you'll see the big difference.

To get a better comparison, you should compare the top 2% of football players to the top 2% in other jobs. Or you could compare average football players to average people in other industries.

So what do you think?

The amount footballers earn is ridiculous.
They have none or very little connection to the supporters .
They live in a completely different world.
And the clubs ours included just keep putting the price up constantly taking off supporters

The wages have become obscene.

I don't have problem with the superstar players getting it, but far, far too many ordinary players are earning well above what they should be and a lot go through the motions doing it.

The top 200 people in the world are almost infinitely less than 2% of the population. To be clear £1.9 million of assets including your house puts you in the top 1% of Brits.
Top footballers are very well paid indeed although not as high as the super wealthy.

Yeah, I do agree with every sentence you said. I just want to clarify that I didn't mean the top 200 people are the top 2% of the of the population. So we are on the same page about that.

I don’t begrudge players what they get. At the elite level they have a rare talent that people will pay to watch. It is the same with music, people want to see Oasis again, so Noel and Liam will earn tens of millions for performing.
What I do massively begrudge is all the grifters and parasites attached to football and stealing a living from the sport. The scum lying journalists, you tube personalities, some of the biased pundits on SKY etc. These people have no talent beyond opportunism and a total lack of integrity.

If you can afford to live in a multi million pound house and drive a sports car over 200k you are rich. Doesn't matter that there are people that are richer and can afford 5 mansions and 20 cars.

Yeah, let’s have a whip round for poor skint footballers.
