Misconception in football - Players are so rich

It's all relative. Compared to most people in the world I'm fucking rich.

I always remember when my wife's cousin went to Uganda. A child was very ill, and she forked out £25 for it to be treated in hospital, which saved its life. £25? Big deal? It was ten months' income for that child's parents.

Top footballers are entertainers and top entertainers have always been paid stupid money, especially since TV/radio/film/records made it possible for them to entertain millions of people.

A lot of these fellas are remarkable at making money. They can bet millions on penny swings and juggle money around. Comparing entrepreneurs, business peoples etc to footballers is weird to me.

They don't deserve to be in the same bracket as a Warren Buffet, Elon Musk or Bill Gates type person. They just kick a ball around.

Footballers are overpaid full stop

Oh do fuck off. Even in the lower leagues there are players on £10k a week. Sounds shite doesn't it until you realise that's £520k a year.

There's a couple of our EDS kids on 10 grand a week!

But there isn't a misconception that they are rich though, because even by the western metric they very much are.

Watch a few podcasts with ex players, some of whom I've hardly heard of before. These are your run of the mill championship players and below. The perks and bonuses they receive are pretty eye watering even at that level compared to your r average working man.

I used to get annoyed during the 80's when a new blockbuster film came out and the narrative was always about the fee for the "star". Films grossed tens or hundreds of millions, but because some actor got 5 or 10 million it got talked about the same way. Not worth it, only stands in front of a camera and play acts, I could do that. I read somewhere that "modern" stars in whatever field don't earn as much as gladiators did in ancient Rome. They became the richest people in the country if successful, and becoming free after being enslaved would be the biggest payday of all. Mind you wouldn't have wanted the day job! Entertainment = bums on seats, so more paying customers the more the entertainers earn. Simples.
