I have two daughters but I still struggle to see how some can compare this to paedophilia, wrong yes but a loss of career should suffice as a punishment.
Agreed and TCM, she didn't really look that much under duress.
I think your missing the point she is 15 years of age and he was her teacher it's wrong on so many different levels
I am not missing any point, I am just crediting a young adult with a brain capable of making some decisions.

I have never said that taking her out of the country was anything other than wrong but I think the whole thing has been completely blown out of proportion. I agree with the French police's attitude to it, which was "Fuck it, we'll arrest him if he turns up but we won't look for him".

If he had waited until she was 16 would it have been legal? Or is 16 only OK if it's with other 16yos?
He'd have to wait until she's 20 or, if she stayed on in 6th form, 22.

16 is the legal age of consent so why would he have to wait till shes 20?? I'd imagine the school would sack him but if she was 16 he wouldn't be doing anything wrong in the eyes of the law.

The Sexual Offences Act made the age of consent in the UK 18 rather than 16 if one of the people is in a 'position of trust' - as a teacher is.

Bang on the money. Cant believe this story has been blown so far out of proportion.

I can think of only two.
Betrayal of trust, and abduction of a minor.
Which 'many' other levels am I missing here?

If she consented to it (which it looks like, but it may turn out otherwise), is that really abduction? If she was taken against her will, and forced there, then I would see it as wrong.
