Missing woman Nicola Bulley - inquest (P 158)

Your first point isn’t strictly the case though-although I would say from experience that it can be subjective-and of course all things together would raise the risk level.

I cannot see how Faulding failed to understand she was high risk-by the time he was involved it was likely to be a body recovery operation if she was in the water. I honestly don’t see how it would’ve made any difference to his search-

It’s all incredibly tragic for the family. I also do think police across the country will need to review their training on how to manage 24 hour news and the proliferation of social media because things can always be improved. Be nice if the media themselves took this on board too..

I've explained many times why it would have altered his search pattern. He was working on the belief she went to the waters edge and slipped/fell in. On that basis he said her body wouldn't have moved far, so he concentrated on that area. If he knew she was high risk he would have worked on the basis she could have committed suicide by jumping in and/or swam/waded further out. That would have meant she would have been carried downstream.

So he presumed suicide wasn’t a possibility? And searched on that unfounded premise? And the police looked on passively? Isn’t that odd?

Completely the opposite. He was working on the basis she'd accidentally fallen in. If he'd known she was high risk then yes he would have suspected suicide and searched further up the river.

He knew she was high risk by very definition that it was highly probable she was in the water-he would’ve been briefed by the Polsa and/or SIO. That he may not according to him have been told specifically she’s ‘high risk’ is irrelevant-what does he think he’s doing there if she isn’t?

She’s a high risk misper in either circumstance you describe-if she slipped/fell or if she went in intentionally.

I think you are confused by the terminology.

Two people spotted her in the river?

Seems a bit odd to me seeing as the river has been thoroughly searched!

Could she have been dumped in there or has she only recently fell in?

Just strikes me as odd.
If she’s been dumped there some time later they will be able to tell exactly how long she’s been in the water for….does sound strange though

Just have to agree to disagree as today's sonars can penetrate down into the sludge and differentiate between differing masses
The police probably need one of those I bet they are expensive though, Kay Burley back in the River Wyre not in! on the bank
How and why is yet to be determined but sad for the family waiting for news.

There was an unfortunate case near us where a boy fell off a pontoon into the tidal river, where he was swept under. His body wasn‘t found for days despite being quite close to the scene.

I know from talking to a knowledgeable local guy that it’s not unusual for a body to be trapped unseen in reeds or beneath a boat for some time. I guess much depends on flow, depth and the nature of underwater obstructions.
