It's the dogs behaviour at the time that should indicate what's happened. As this man says, you'd expect the dog to be focusing on the river if she has gone in. Have they said where exactly the dog was roaming when it was found?Police seem certain she didn't leave, pretty sure they will have viewed footage if she entered

I've only had German Sheps and Border Collies and I know they would be close to where they last saw someone. Our dogs were always female and would stay close. Rarely ran off like a male dog might.
If it was running around confused then that could indicate it had lost sight of her before she vanished.
Just supposition though, and I'm sure the Police have already taken such things into account.

Yeah, different breeds have different reactions. Only spaniel (a cavalier) we ever had would have done the sameOur Yorkie woman would come home. She wouldn’t hang around.
