Mistake, After Mistake, After mistake! Why Can't We See Games Out?

From best team in Europe. All the planning, plotting, shrewd deals, hunger, striving to join the elites - then joining them and even beating them. To this! 22nd in Europe and 5th and 15 points off the pace in the PL. Yes, even the elites have an occasional dip, but nothing like this collapse.
Seeing the dippers dispatch an injury hit Madrid with ease and then seeing us go all Mavis Riley on them to contrive to throw it all away yet again is very worrying. Pep can't blame it on injuries anymore

Genuine question …do we have a defensive coach? Of the many coaches we have which one is here at the club who is responsible for the defensive arts?

I get the impression none of the many coaches are employed as specialists.

playing with one leg in a plaster-cast he would add dynamism to our Dads Army midfield

how about taking haaland off now and again and putting another midfilder on

What is this constant need and urge to want to attack and to play out from the back, even when we are leading and there are a few minutes of the game left?

2-1 up. Ederson has the ball. Instead of holding on to the ball, wasting a bit of time, telling the players to get up the pitch, wasting a bit more time, forcing the Real Madrid players back up the pitch, out of our half, he takes a quick and short kick, and...

What has happened to us seeing games out, slowing games down, and taking our time at the end of the game when we're winning?

There's no need to constantly chase another goal. We're already winning! See the fucking game out. Waste time. Hoof the fucking ball into row Z. Do anything to not give the ball away, and to waste some time.

Frustrated rant over.
Match fixing at its finest :-(

Just had a quick look back at the treble season while slowly disposing of a hot whiskey before heading for bed. The amount of games, in all competitions, that we conceded 3 in (not including the community shield); two. Away at Newcastle (3-3) and at home against the rags (6-3). We didn't concede 4 in a single game.
So far this season, we've let in 3 (or more) in six games. Sporting, Spurs, Feyenoord, PSG, Arsenal and tonight. The decline, in less than two seasons, is staggering.

We're done around 50mins.

The amount we concede after this time is ridiculous.

Pep might as well make all 5 subs at half-time.

Not sure Pep has been tested like this before. He can’t seem to solve the defensive problem or get his ideas across at the moment. Still love the guy though.

It's not Pep - for once he doesn't have good enough players plus depth in multiple positions.

Simple, Peps loyalty over common sense with some of the old gaurd.

Terrible fortune with injuries each game.

A creeping lack of belief in the last 10 minutes which has come about from constantly balling up in the last 10 minutes.

Well losing, Jack, Akanji and more imporantly Ake to injury at crucial times last night didn't help, it forced changes to the system and postions that left us weaker tbf.

You could argue Peps choice of replacements was wrong and personally Not using Kushanov and taking Savio off were both mistakes he cannot be excused for

The 3 substitutions were a disaster, Rico kova and gundogan have all been poor this season and part of our problems. Saviniho should have stayed on he was tracking back really well , Kevin’s legs have unfortunately gone that’s there for everyone to see and lastly Ederson is dropping huge bollocks almost every other game . Thats it in a nutshell for me . :(

Why won't we be tired next season?
World Club Cup is 14/07-13/08 with potentially 7 games most clubs aren't involved so they will get a nice rest.
Play the senior players, get knocked out let the new kids on the block have summer off, come back refreshed.

Win the charity shield, etc etc etc

We've played Real Madrid many times and we were fortunate to be 2-1 up. We were set up defensively at home but that is not surprising given the way we have been playing. The one thing this side does have is fantastic attacking players but we went for caution because we are weak defensively.

And at the end the mistakes came in. Clearly injuries are a big problem. Losing Grealish was a loss. But Grealish and Akanji are constantly injured so I can't rate them as players. KDB has been like this for the last 2-3 years

There were some positives: Haaland, Gvardiol, Stones at DM. Confidence wasn't a problem with them. I bet if you put Rodri in the side it would fix a lot of the problems. And add a right-back. Whether Khusanov is the answer depends on his ability going forward. I expect he is very good defensively but weak going forward. He needs a run in the side now.
