MLB 2016

I reckon Ryan Vogelsong is probably wishing they played with a DH in the NL after today. Just got drilled in the face by a fastball and looked to be bleeding before he even hit the deck (where he stayed for a pretty long time). 0-2 to the pitcher, with one out and the bases loaded is probably not the time to hit the batter in the face either. I'd be surprised if he hasn't broken his eye socket or nose, if not both as it really got him, hell of a sound

^^ Ooof! Just seen that. That hi-def still pic taken a split second after the impact is pretty sickening. Clearly shows at least a depressed cheekbone.
Can happen to pretty much anyone though, I'm a Marlins fan and the same thing happened to Stanton last year and usually gets a few guys each season. Part of the game.

The DH rule is an abomination. National League is the pure game. 9 v 9.

If you make all of MLB have the DH as I've heard mention on some commentaries and blogs then what happens lower down? Should kids who can pitch give up hitting?

Hitting is part of the game and often the pitcher can make the difference at the plate. Look at Bumgarner hit. Why should he and his team be denied that? Look at Bartolo hit! Why should fans be denied that?

If the pitcher's no good at hitting then get practicing!

Sickening blow to Vogelsong, at least he got an RBI. Hope he's ok but looks like a broken cheek bone at least from that photo. *wince*

But hardly evidence to support the DH rule just a very loose pitch, especially at 0-2 and bases loaded. He had to be expecting a pitch at least close to the zone, as would anyone. The catcher was! Even the commentators say "just don't hit him" just before he delivered. Could've happened to anyone but difficult to see how you eliminate the risk without full face helmets. Do you want to eliminate the risk? Current helmets protect the head/brain so they do do their job. Can't sanitise the game too much. It's The Big Leagues!

I'm not as against the DH as some, although I do much prefer the tactical element of hitting around a pitcher and the pinch hitting and all the tactics that involves. My biggest objection is to full time DH's. You're not a baseball player, you're a hitter. You shouldn't be allowed to DH in more than a certain percentage of your games, you should have to field a position more often than not and if you are going to use DH's then it should be so position players can get the occasional day off in the field, not so some fat fuck can just sit around then smash a homerun every now and again and pretend he's playing on a level playing field with the players who wear themselves out in the field 162 games a year.

Pitchers pitch, hitters hit. I'm all for the DH, granted V-Mart still plays first on occasion so he certainly pulls his weight in that regard.

Pitchers pitch, field and hit.. Hitters hit, field and if it goes to a lot of extra innings they might pitch too. Everyone should field their position. It's part of the defensive team game. If hitters need a rest then they can pinch hit late in the game or have a night off.

Anyway great win last night for the Mets. 7-1 at Nats Park. The Bats are back! Really big start tonight for Harvey and his short term future. He'll need a lot of run support. A win puts us top of the division with Matz to come tomorrow night. But that's getting way ahead of myself.
