MLB 2022

When you put it like that, you do rather take the wind out of their sails. :-)

Yes it does, but they won without allowing the opponent to get a runner on base through a hit, which is quite a rare occurrence.
Ahh right, no I do get it . I think .
So , nobody actually made it to first base ?
Sorry, wasn’t cheapening the effort, just never came across the phrase before .

No problem.

A 'no-hitter' is when no batter has made it to a base in conventional means (i.e. hitting the ball) but may have reached a base by being deliberately walked, hit by a pitch, etc. Quite a rare thing, with only 315 such games since 1876. A 'perfect game' is where no batter has reached any base at all and is even rarer: only 23 such games in the modern era.

Wasn't there a film with Kevin Costner pitching for the Detroit Tigers where he threw a perfect game?

Phillies lose against the Mets leading by 6 runs in the ninth innings.

Only the Phillies could lose from that position allowing 5 runs with one out to get.

Girardi has to go , no idea how to get the best of this team headed for another shocker of a season.

Decision making on the switches was more than farcical.

You wouldn’t describe recent Mets v Phillies meetings as uneventful. The lack of depth in the bullpen would hamstring any manager, but the pressure is certainly on Girardi.

They have had a long time to fix up their deficiencies and a number of average managers given the money thrown at improving the roster.

They should be competing with the likes of the Mets and well ahead of the Marlins and admittedly its early days but once Atlanta come back to full strength the Phillies they are likely to be competing for 5th in their division with only the reds being regarded as a poorer side.

You don't hire an ex Yankee world series winning manager to be in contention for bottom rung in the league least of all your division.

Third season at the helm and no sign things are improving this year despite the payroll going north fast.

A massive underachieve in the past three seasons and yes Girardi is treading on egg shells and will be given little time to get them winning baseball games and winning series against the likes of Texas and the Marlins FFS at home.

This loss was on Girardi fair and square , better to have kept Nola on for 9 innings than to throw away such a lead when he had been on song to put them into what for any other baseball team including the REDS would have been a certain W.
