MLB 2024

Harder to place the Mets. Overall though, I’d have them down as more like Spurs. From a big city, talk a big game, have a high opinion of themselves, splash the cash, but nearly always underperform.
Something to this. Then again, they are Amazin'!
(I know this is true as my second-ever baseball game was Mookie Wilson's base-hit through Bill Buckner's legs.)

Edit: perhaps more like West Ham?

If you'd have said to me two months ago we'd have Skubal on the mound for a winner takes all game in the ALDS, I'd have had you committed.

It would be disappointing sure, being one win away from the ALCS for two games, but either way I've enjoyed watching the Tigers for the first time in a long while. Felt like a slog season after season.
Do you think they will build on this or just fall back to type? They never seem to show much ambition in free agency and always seem to be trading away decent players for not a lot of return. If they could add some genuine power and batting to the side then surely with the pitching in place, they'd be a very good side.

The Yankees are all the worst attributes of the rags, dippers and Arsenal all rolled into one.
Harder to place the Mets, especially as they are one of the original expansion teams so didn’t even exist before the 60s. Overall though, I’d have them down as more like Spurs. From a big city, talk a big game, have a high opinion of themselves, splash the cash, but nearly always underperform.
You've met some odd Mets fans.

I think they'll definitely have to look at a shortstop for decent money and Tork and first base will be interesting but like you say, there's probably not a big move in them as it's not Harris' MO at the moment.

Probably more pitching, because why not, and seeing how the market lies but I wouldn't be shocked to see more faith put in the young guys for the most part.

I'll be happy enough if just Baez is moved on in fairness!

Isn’t Baez on a stupid contract or is that nearly up? He’s been a massive bust hasn’t he. Was really hoping Tork would come good, but he’s really gone backwards this year hasn’t he.

Game 5 has now been moved to the prime-time slot and an 8pm start. It was originally an afternoon game. The weather forecast here in Cleveland right now, is for on and off rain Saturday night. If that happens it’s not good for anyone, but might blunt the impact of Skubal starting if there’s a decent rain delay after just a couple of innings and the starters have to be pulled. If that does look likely, I could see AJ Hinch using a starter and bringing Skubal in from the bullpen.
Moved again seemingly

I'd eat the rest of his contract just to get his name off the roster, maybe harsh but as you know the time difference for game starts isn't always kind to us over here and many a late night was fucked even further right off by him

LOL. Fair comment, but that was largely my experience of them in the 5 years I lived in NJ and attended games fairly frequently.
I remember at one game a guy who was definitely old enough to remember the franchise being born, lambasting the players from centre field for daring to lose to the Marlins, “a fuggin’ expansion team!!”

I can't imagine having to watch Baez every day for years. He was relatively decent for us but it used to drive me crazy when he'd come up with runners on and strike out taking a HR cut at a ball heading for his ear.
