The problem against Bayern at home is that we conceded really early, then 2 more soft goals. If we gad defended properly then 442 would have worked.

Watch the game again, we got absolutely schooled.

Being a goal down early didn't help there though, took the pressure off Bayern to do anything but keep the ball.

WE conceded three sloppy goals, didn't have Silva in the team and Dzeko couldn't control a bag of cement that night.

And they played really well.

Won't happen again. Everyone's a lot wiser.

It didn't alter their game plan one iota. They wanted to exploit the extra man in midfield and dominate possession, and that's what they did. Barca will have the same game plan.

Both are true aren't they?

Hart could have done better on 2 of the three goals, and the third goal was pretty soft too.

That said, they were a class above us that night until they took their foot off the gas with maybe 25 to go and 3-0 up. 3-1 certainly didn't flatter them.

Too simplistic, hg. They dominated possession because we kept giving it back to them. We kept giving it back to them because without Silva we couldn't put them under pressure, and Dzeko couldn't deal with the outlet ball.

The answer to that problem after 20 minutes would have been an extra man in midfield, but as I kept saying at the time, it isn't an automatic 'cause and effect' that 442 gives you this weakness.

They also played with 2 extra men in midfield as they didn't use an out and out centre forward but had players taking it in turns to press our back 4 and run into the channels plus at times their fullbacks we're the furthest players up the pitch and they then had 6 in midfield and the formation looked 2-6-2!!

As Dave said, no Silva that night was our biggest problem, as he can carry the ball into tight spaces before releasing to the available option plus Dzeko was poor and Hart had his worst game in a City shirt.

Pellegrini has decided what system (4 4 2) we will play and we will play that way 95% of the time. I don't say 100% because he did change
for Chelsea away. At home I'm sure he won't change the system. Also that game (Bayern) was when, maybe as a team, we were still learning
to play/cope with that system. I feel we are more comfortable with it now and are reaping the benefits. I DO think defensively it needs tidying
up (closing space quicker) but whilst we are playing and winning the way we are, it is not the be all and end all.

The good news is that Jovetic is back. Hopefully he can start against Barcelona. He'll help us to retain possession better.
