Monaco post match

Sorry to point out the elephant in the room but, we also had Joe.

Nothing to do with it at all. Joe made a shambles out of the careers of Nastasic, Savic, Kolo and Mangala via his constant shouting and screaming at the back line.

More importantly on @ManCityX point, we had an axis of De Jong, Barry and Yaya sat in front of our defense and two players in Nasri and Silva wide who didnt give the ball away, thereby making life easier on our full backs.

Wow what a game. Was at the match, jeeez it was every emotion.

We dint put in a good defensive display, though it is worth remembering they are a very good team, free scoring dont let many goals in, playing on form, and tbh City have been the first team they come up against who have really tested them.... I expect Monaco to go lose a few games in their league now their confidence is shot.

The team worked so fkin hard, even Aguero (Who did the same last years semi's and quarters from what I remember - which begs the question why doesnt he do that every match!), motm for me goes to Pep for getting the tactics right against a very tough fixture. We might have let a lot in but we tore them apart (I dont know where the TV narrative comes from about them being shite at defence, not in france they're not), and Pep is right, we have to score in the next game.

Favourtite moment was the crowd singing the referees a wanker which descended into just wanker wanker wanker which of course he was.

Once again the defence let us down, when will Pep learn that the constant passing the ball to the keeper is playing us into trouble. I don't mind playing the ball short, as long as it goes forward and not straight back to the keeper, because that is how they score d1 of their goals. If we are to go through to the semi-finials, we have to make sure that we score the first goal. Which will mean Monaco have got to score at least 3 to go through. If we can get Vinny fit for the 2nd leg, then that should tighten up the defence. Vinny along side John Stones should help quite a lot in the centre of defence, and make it more secure.

How do you arrive at the conclusion that Joe's big mouth made a shambles out of those 4 careers?
I noticed that our old friend Savic got a game last night and not certain but he seemed to fuck up?

All you had to do was sit and listen to it mate. Just screaming at them endlessly, it must have been off putting for them.

Savic may have had a mess up last night, but c'mon man, he's gone on to have a great career.

Just pointing out that, in my opinion and surely that of any sensible football watcher, Joe is a better 'keeper than either Willie or Claudio. As for 'keepers shouting at the defence; that's what they should be doing, unless it's negative abuse, of course.

kompany, lescott and a lots of other defenders we've had didn't seem to mind. with joe in net we've had some very good defences. shouting at the back to me is leadership, something we are lacking at the minute.

No i'm fine thanks.
I understand perfectly (thanks to my TV-series addiction), i just can't make a sentence correctly. :/
Yeah of course. In an earlier post you said 'Really awesome chemistery in this team, i can't describe it in English'. So please describe in French as you have been asked by someone else so that we can try and understand...

Go on then.

Kompany and Lescott.

Who else?

Nasty, Boateng, Savic, Kolo, DeMichelis?

Fact is Kompany and Lescott are the only two composed players we had at centre back and others always seemed to crack under the pressure. Shouting isnt leadership. Shouting is being a fan. Sane doesn't say a word on the pitch, look at how he is leading the team right now. Yaya is quiet as a mouse, yet the players clearly love and respect him.

It's taking the talk on a tangent so I'll leave it here, but saying Hart made our defensive play better is clearly bonkers. He may have been a world class shot stopper or overall keeper even, but he had zero impact on improving centre back or defensive play, I'd say the opposite, and that's a big reason Pep got rid.

Lol the joe bit,we had the best defence for 3yrs until mp dismantled it

That mistake by their keeper for 2-2 was such a howler. We promptly gave it back but my goodness was that an awful goal to concede.

Really happy the team responded and found the goals needed. Plenty left to do in Monaco but that showed some real mentality given how shit that ref was

Not really, give credit to el KUN ffs, it was a shot full of venom and power, the ball crawled like a viper, hard to catch, even if it was in their goalie's way.

Agree the ref was a bent cünt.

Did you ever play in goals at anything approaching a serious level? Its what a keeper does. If he over steps the mark you shout back at the fucker.
Most of those guys you mention tbf deserved a good bollicking!!

We aren't going to play Kompany. I don't think so. We had opportunity to get games into him over last month but left him on the bench so I interpret that as we're playing the long game with Kompany.

Defence was poor, but this is the issue about city at the moment, or a big issue. Are we defending poorly because the defenders are poor or because the team is set up to attack. I think the latter. It was obvious when we saw the teamsheet that Guardiola had chosen to fight fire with fire. OK Monaco, if you want to flood forward, then we invite you forward and we'll hit you with Sterling, Aguero, and Sane on the counter.

Never the same again after this, then strangely sold under MP

i didn't just say centre backs. clichy, zaba, sagna all looked very good defensively with joe behind them. the players you mention in particular nasty, savic, kolo, demi weren't good enough anyway, they all made terrible mistakes and got found out. shouting can be leadership, but it depends whats hes shouting, if hes organizing the back four or shouting encoruogment theres nothing wrong with that. of course keepers can make the defense better and organize them better. we are seeing that with bravo, no communication at all from him.

the main reason pep got rid was because of style of play.......
