Monaco post match

Sterling and Sane are the two most important footballers at our club. The owner said, when he bought us, he was going to bring a style that would thrill. These two are going to be generation defining and will drive forward City's "brand" of football.

We'll look back on them as our greatest wingers. The electricity they produce going forward is like having two Sweep's on speed.

Yes the goalkeeper, centre halves, centre midfielders and striker are more important positions normally, but... These two are our attack.

The pace, skill and confidence they bring on the flanks must give opposing managers nightmares. Add to that the genius of Silva, De Bruyne and Yaya and you've got the best attacking lineup this club has ever had.

When I look at a team sheet and see those two, along with Silva and De Bruyne... I get a hard on.

Pep deserves credit for getting the best out of Silva and De Bruyne playing together too.

Defensively shocking but amazing going forward. Best game I've seen in a long time. The referee was a disgrace again.

Willy redeemed himself hugely. None of our defenders are up to it. Otamendi is terrible. Stones isn't far behind but he's a long way off his prime and shouldn't be judged this season....look at how much Sterling and Sane have come on after mediocre starts.

Monaco were great to be fair. They will have their best talent taken away. They remind me so much of Dortmund about 5 years ago. Such a good side going forward. Their pace was frightening.

Overall we have to be delighted. It's a great result given we had absolutely everything go against us. The referees aren't even trying to hide it any more though. It's so far beyond a joke. The overall game was a microcosm of our season. Great going forward, chances missed, really bad defensive and keeping errors and really dodgy decisions.

I'm so fucking angry and not just because it's taken me 1/2 an hour to get out of the car park. We should be home and dry now had it not been for that **** of a ref

What a night. That's why. I. Love .Football.

Nervous 1st half. A bit too cautious and not enough confidence. Monaco nearly perfect then.

The ref made a strong call against Sergio and I like that way - but not if it's only done against City worldwide! Wtf?
I couldn't even clearly see a foul from Ota v Falcao, but then it's a pen?? No consistency within the match AND compared to other refs as well.
I think the ref was very good though, but refs are so incredible different. Huge impact to the game.

I knew City would turn up 2nd half. Really impressive how confident City was going on to hunt Monaco down. Could have been more than 5.

Stones was a bit shaky as well - but after Falcao's 2-3 happened he was worldclass and fought back to equalize his mistake. Strong mentality!!

Now CB Glik is suspended for the 2nd leg, very good. They have to come at us and they know what will happen...

Thank you for that performance, City!

Why was Zabba so wound up to get the booking?
My reading of it was he was doing exactly what was needed - what an experienced pro should - which is to let the ref know that we weren't getting the calls. The tackle on Silva was not that bad but Zabba took the booking and funnily enough we got a few more calls after that.

A walking calamity saves a penalty, and our £50m wonderkid stabs the winning goal, just fifteen minutes after looking a broken man. Meanwhile Aguero is denied a blatant penalty, but also scores with a shot that was actually going wide. In fact every single player had a nightmare spell and a purple patch, with dodgy decisions and dozy defending, not to mention yellow cards for diving and dissent.

Welcome to Typical City Pep. The team that goes from A to B, but never in a straight line.

Tough to single people out but thought yaya was absolutely imperious. He's a colossus when he's on that form.

Quite a bizarre performance. Eleven bookings? I cannot see how a referee can be so certain in those instances that he knows a player has dived. You cannot tell in real time, the game is too fast but this canute was there with the card as sure as night follows day and as Aguero hit the deck he's ripping off his pocket to get the card out. I am certain their goalie dropped a load thinking he was on a red!

Huge pat on the back to Willy for dragging Stones off the floor after their third. He looked broken but Caballero inspired him to keep fighting.

Would like to see Stones in the pivot role where there's a bit less pressure on his defending. Especially if we're going to move the full backs into midfield when we have the ball (Stones sitting back to form a back 3 with the CBs). His distribution is excellent.

MotM was Aguero. We needed leadership and I felt he brought more than anyone.

It's not my fault some people expected a walk in the park tonight. Jardim (who has a great future as a coach) has done a fantastic job at Monaco. A team with great tactical awareness, players with inteligence and composure, and the ability to adapt their game and pace acording to the demands of the actual play going on in front of them every god damn minute. Either to keep the ball, maintain possession, develop from the flanks, or go direct centrally etc etc etc. Their cohesion is outstanding, and Jardim's play book is characterised by considerable variety, Monaco are able to attack creating a number of different situations...

He's working 3 years there (I believe even his boss gampled signing him), he has developped players out of nowhere and in the process he changed their style completely (in his early days he was heavily criticised for his defensive approach, Monaco were considered a "boring" team to watch (!) despite decent results). The progress of the team is awesome, Monaco are leaders in Ligue 1 (ahead of P-S-G, a win and a draw against them this season!!!), a highly mature side performing according to its manager's philosophy...

City, on the other hand, are a work in progress. Plus, I'll say it once again, they do have significant limitations due to wrong decisions taken last summer. Which are hurting Guardiola's effort. Unfortunately for him, he trusted the wrong people, people who didn't deserve his trust. But what is done is done, nothing to do about it before the end of the season. What is important is that the team is growing quickly, establishing a certain style while improving players (even seniors), developping youngsters (who are already playing a key role in the team) etc etc etc...

Despite our weaknesses and limitations, despite once again been fucked by the men in black, City overcame all negative circumstances, came from behind (twice!!!) once again, and delivered a magificent win which should make their true supporters feel proud. Responding as a unit throughout 90 minutes. It will be a bitter flight back to Monaco tonight for Jardim and his players. Given their confidence, given the way the match progressed, it will be difficult to accept the final result. Surely a shock for them. Conceding 5 goals while being ahead at halftime, while being ahead after 2/3 of 90 minutes...

Can we ban all those pricks slagging us off and posting every two minutes until we went 4-3 up when they mysteriously logged off?

Best European tie I've ever seen. Great game.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm posting on the right forum. I've become familiar with the pessimism, negativity and overeaction characterising City's environment, however there are posts dificult to explain (and it's not the first time). Quite clearly there are people in here actually feeling happy when stuff seem to get going against City. But they're not clever enough are they, eager to express their negativity before things are decided, ridiculously exposed in the process...

City are building a status. They are also building a specific style, a specific identity under Guardiola. It's called a vision. Haters should get familiar with the idea that it's the kind of vision bound to attract new supporters. Football history is a continuous battle between creativity and negativity, between attacking and defensive minded approaches -I'm pleased City have commited to the positive side. As far as I am corcerned, I would prefer this vision anytime (despite its temporary flaws) against Conte's, Murinio's, Simeone's (or you name who's) "effectiveness". Thank God there are milions like me out there, enjoying the "beautiful game"...

The man is here to stay. And he will be afforded the time the quality of his work deserves. So how about for some people simply considering throwing their poison elsewhere, just fuck off and let the rest of us enjoy the journey. Just saying...

PS. As for Monaco, I wish them zero luck in the 2nd leg, but they are my second choice for the Championnat this season. I would really hope for Lucien Favre's Nice to do the impossible and win it. If they cannot, good luck to Jardim. In either case, I would expect overated Unai Emery to resign (before getting the sack). Given the money they've spent (and keep on spending), winning Ligue 1 is only natural for P-S-G, hardly an achievement. As far as I am concerned, the situation is already embarrassing for the Paris side. And if they finish anything but first, I would expect their manager to admit his failure and do the only decent thing there is...

In all the post match hysteria I've forgotten that we actually scored from a corner. Not once but twice. It's like buses.

Night blues.
