As I've said before,if the system had'nt been reformed in the 1990's we would not be facing these problems. Exacerbated by Blairs ludicrous insistence that 50% of schooleavers should go to Uni., We now have thousands of kids, thinking University is the only place to be. If the brightest and best, from whatever background; to pacify some Toytown Trots on here, were selected, we could pay them a grant, which is what used to happen, before Blair and his ilk decided this was not 'Inclusive' enough.
Witnessing some of these kids on the telly recently has been laughable. 37 year old 'Students', studying 'Politics,' or 'Media Studies', rousing giggling, made-up-to-the- nines middle class, daddy sponging young tarts has not helped their so called cause one bit. What is really sad about all this is bright kids from poor backgrounds are being tagged as lefty lunatics, whereas, if they look at the broader picture, they don't have to pay anything at all until they earn £21000 or so, this on a sliding scale, I believe.
They will have to accept this; the Govt will, i think not back down. Some things, not all, were better years ago.
