More than half of Brits want burka ban

That is actually unsettling somehow though.

The unsettling thing would be to suggest that Nuns dont eat.

Anyway as nuns go I like the cut of her jib because she eats well.
Special K for breakfast !

I thought they lived on wafers and wine?

Anyway in case anyone takes it seriously clearly it's not often you see one day to day in these situations, dozens of them? You can see her face too so there'd be no reason to ask but as serious as her face looks I think if she was asked to remove the headgear just while she shops she would oblige.

I'm not 'Proud' to be English. I'm grateful as it could have been an awful lot worse being born in many other parts of the world but I wouldn't say proud.
Each to their own though. If people get their kicks by hanging a StGeorge Flag then let them crack on.
As for the Burkha, if the person wearing it is happy to do so then let them. If they're being forced to against their wishes then obviously that's a problem.
Banning it altogether would bring its own problems to a country already seeming with them so not sure that's the way to go.

Religion eh...
Most would say they are happy but deep down, i reckon only a tiny few are happy to wear a burka, Hijab etc... Every day rather than have freedom to wear whatever they want. And that tiny few are lying as well.

Unfortunately more than half the population of this country were daft enough to equate our critical membership of the European Union to immigration and vicariously their own ignorant outdated and clueless bigotry . So this should come as no surprise, as clearly more of our population than we think is thick as fuck

Oh dear.

I don't feel any affinity for St. George and his flag, it seems more like the national icon of the home counties than the entire country. The British flag on the other hand I do, but then again that is pretty much the icon of the British Empire which I don't agree with (retrospectively of course).
How strange, I'd guess I'm more northern than you and feel great affinity with both flats.

Saying the St Georges flag is a national icon of the Home Counties is bollocks, in my personal opinion.

Well I could be wrong but I thought the point of it is that men do not see their face or at least holy men... aren't there a few religions that use it?
No it's all non family member men.

The only things visible are hands and eyes, so you should see how dolled up they have their eye make up out here and always have amazing henna tattoos on their hands as well.

It was a bit disconcerting at first but you soon get used to it. I think everyone wanting a ban should forcibly be made to travel for a few years and they'll soon realise that not everything that is strange and foreign is out to get them.

Which are the majority of our countrymen.

I do not have time to deal with your anti English sentiment as it must run rather deep.
But being English we will uphold unto death your right to sound off and bite down on the hand that feeds you ; )

This for me, however, anyone who thinks the flag of England should be banned is a complete and utter **** and needs to hide inside a Burka for suggesting it..!

Genuine question, Is the burka a religious garment i.e in the Quran or is it just something that men have forced upon women?

The latter

I watched the film Suffragette the other day...astounds me that in the 21st century women are still being oppressed by men...Mancunian Emily and her ladies would be mortified by the Burka and rightly so

It's not forced upon by men. Qur'an gives an outline in the below verse

"And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests ......."

As to the specifics, the Prophetic tradition is clear that except face and hands, the rest should be covered while in public. Face veil is debatable.

For practicing believers, the happiness is in obeying and submitting to God's commands, not for freedom of choice.

And there, captured in 18 words, is the excuse for all the appalling acts of cruelty undertaken by man on fellow man, in the name of a God and religion.
