more thrown out

I've seen the footage already and I vividly recall watching the incident from South Stand Upper without understanding what exactly was going on. There was a rumour that a Villa fan had jumped the divide and had a go at someone but this was largely fuelled by the amount of Stewards and Police involved to eject just one man. I was more wondering if Ladybarn could confirm or deny fellow Bluemooners claims that he was "faking" when he was on the floor.

Playing Devil's Advocate, I've been going to football matches for a good 20 years now and never once had even the threat of being ejected - yet we're reading posts about Showsec after almost every home match. I'm no idiot sitting on my hands either because I sing, swear, shout, stand away from home and get wound up when we've got a blind Referee or the opponents are glorified Rugby players. Never once have I had a Steward ask for a word etc.
You reckon Ladybarn is going to come out and say he was faking?

109 is the battleground over who is allowed to stand and who is not, hence why you hear regularly from us. 111 and 110 don't ever have that issue, nor do 116 and 117 I'm sure as they're allowed to stand without interference, whereas I got threatened with a ban against Swansea by a Showsec steward even though I'd done nowt wrong. I said it in the uploader comment in the Showsec video months and months ago, they pick people out to make an example of them over a lost cause; getting 109 to sit. Not because they've done something to actually deserve it. Nothing has changed. They backed off a bit after the Villa incident but the same shit is going on.

this issue in 109 is that half the folks want to sit I'd rather stand the stewards are pretty ineffective and spend most of the game shouting sit down to no avail become a bit of a game with them of late people seem get thrown out for abusiveness and swearing not for standing up

I imagine it gets to the point where the Stewards have wound people up in such a tense envrionment that these disputes are regularly occurring. Moods and atmosphere at football can change in seconds.

There's some good responses to what I've been saying. I did used to prefer to stand myself (and I did stand at Dartford Town v Hereford United in September!) but, at City, it got to the point where the Stewards were ruining the day so I moved to another section and gave up.

There appears to be 2 "similiar" threads , the other one similiar to this one is "mate arrested".

I note people making 1 or 2 comments about the events of 12 months ago inrespect of Show Sec and the "old man" in 109 .

Some people may be intrested to read my letter on page 15 of the thread "mate arrested".

I only send this email by way of information and my side of the events .

People need to remember there isn't smoke without fire. Nearly everywhere else in the ground is okay with the stewards, my entrance has a woman working for showsec, she's alright, she's even let me in the stands with a pint before!

The singing section needs more stewarding for obvious reasons such as its proximity to away fans and also the type of fan it attracts are more likely to drink etc... (not trying to offend anyone, however this section is aimed at groups of middle aged men).

The issue is the fact that the majority of the stewards take themselves to seriously. I'm sure of there is a young kid in that area that can't see, a steward would get much better results politely asking someone to sit down and telling them why, but instead they attempt to rule with an iron fist!

The only way to tackle this problem IMO is to tell people buying tickets there that the majority of people stand up all game here! If you have a problem sit somewhere else! Would make a lot more sense and it's easy to do!

Last season I might have had some sympathy for those in 109 who "want to sit down" as it wasn't clear when the seasoncards were purchased what 109 would be like (i.e. standing for the whole game). This season everyone in 109 bought their seasoncard aware of what happened last season (or, if a new seasoncard holder should have done a little research into the area they were going to be located) so I have no sympathy, if you are located in 109 you'll be stood up, you had your chance to relocate (I'm sure there are numerous people who want to get into 109 and stand) and didn't take it.

I'm in 109, and I stand. I don't get grief from showsec or the stewards but that's because I'm on row DD, the very back row, so clearly I'm not going to be able to sit with 20+ rows of standing in front of me. Personally I'm happy to go with the majority. I have no deep seated desire to stand, or to sit. If everyone around me sits then I'll do likewise, not that it's a likely occurence.

Its no where as clear cut as you state m8 to many simple generalisations about everybody knew and they can relocate if they want

I tried to relocate 4 seats to 110 but its simply not possible

I think for the time being it’s going to be sit down stand ping pong in 109 and there will be more people who'll get slung out. My experiences of both the show sec and MCFC stewards is positive they are usually helpful, chatty and actually quite discriminating about who they tackle. They have some right cases to deal with often pissed and drugged up .

The myth about being thrown out for standing is just that inevitably its because some fan(s) kick off, are offensive and threatening, particularly to the women staff. Hardly model behaviour and completely unnecessary.

Today is Rememberance Day. "If you're reading this I'm kicking it with the big guy".. from a letter a young soldier wrote to his parents to read if he died and unfortunately he did. I watched the festival of rememberance on the BBC last night and a few things stood out, it was incredibly sad but empowering. So, so sad, but there wasn't a sense of poor us or victimisation. Just a sense of togetherness and unity and more than anything, a need for hope.

This poor old us routine doesn't wash..or just feels wrong today.

People either like us or they don't, but you don't get thrown out of a stadium for nothing, there isn't a big session before hand of security guards looking to single out City fans. Can they be too over the top, too picky? Ya. But there's a thing known as picking your battles and this isn't one worth fighting over. Is it unfair, ya. But so is life.

Like I said, and I know it's not fair to put one situation up against the other, but this poor old us routine that some of us have going, when really you consider just how fortunate we are, is tiring to say the least.
It's bearable most days, but not today.

unfortunately people do get thrown out for nothing, i have been and have since had an apology from the club. mine was mistaken identity so dont talk rubbish unless you know all facts

I think you've misunderstood.

Of course you won't be able to relocate to 110, certainly not 4 tickets, as it's a very popular block to be located in. However, I assume, you wanted to go to 110 so you could stand? If so I don't think there should be an issue as, from this season onwards, I think constant standing in 109 should have been the expected norm. Anyone in 109 who didn't want to stand should have relocated elsewhere, I'm certain there are opportunities to relocate to many different areas of the ground, just not a very popular block like 110. Not that this would affect those wanting to leave 109 due to the standing, as 110 stands all the time as well!

As for the generalisation that "everyone knew", I stand by it (see what I did there?!). You'd need to be blind and/or dumb not to have noticed 109 stood up almost exclusively during last season. Anyone in 109 last season has no case for complaining this season that people are standing, they knew at seasoncard renewal point what had happened last season, and therefore what to expect this season. Those new to the stadium may have a slightly more plausible case for complainin, but still, I'd hope if you were getting a seasoncard for the first time you'd either A - Been to many games already, so therefore seen 109 from your various vantage points or B - Done a litle research into where you wnated to sit, and what the atmosphere/fans around you might be like. With the internet it's a piece of piss to do that kind of thing in a matter or minutes.

I'm almost certain you won't get a sympathetic reply.

-- Wed Nov 14, 2012 1:46 pm --

I agree with that. I've often "sold" South Stand Upper to other people on the understanding they want the experience I have.
