More to the Sturridge riddle than meets the eye?

Cheers,Sweep.

I've been watching the lad since he was lauded as the "best academy product ever."

He's got all the skill and potential in the world, but I've seen him just completely lose focus and vanish from the game if it's not going his way.
I know that he's still young, and that this can be levelled at many so-called "great" players-Berbatov springs to mind straight away-but young Sturridge,in my opinion has always been lacking in that extra 10% of "desire" and effort that turns a "good prospect" into a "great player."
Whether intentional or not-whenever I watch him play he always gives me the impression he'd rather be somewhere else.

For all of this,it's still a shame if we lose him.
I would hope that he stays-he links well with Robinho.I think that eventually, given time-that they could be a good pairing.

But he has to understand that he's not in the first 11 every week simply beacuse he's not yet ready. If Villa or Chelsea are willing to rest all their attacking hopes on him and throw him straight up front alongside Drogba/Carew(which I doubt) then good luck to them both, and I wish him well.

MH is totally right about this one, though.

Agree with everything there. Sturridge is talented and does have potential, but its how its fullfilled is the thing at the end of the day. The terms "great prospect" and "future star" are banded about alot these days at almost any youngster (anywhere, not just city) who shows promise. People said similar things about Bradley Wright-Phillips as they do about Sturridge. I don't see how he thinks he's not getting enough first team. As I said on the first page, he has started 2 big games in the UEFA Cup in Germany, and a few Premier League games. Not many 19 year olds would get those opportunities. However he is not ready for first 11 football every week, at Villa he has Carew, Heskey, Agbonlahor to get ahead of, plus the talented Delfouneso. Sturridge has alot to learn. A good loan spell in the Championship could be a good thing for him, but if his ego is a big as people make out that could prevent him, he will feel he deserves top level football. Whatever he decides good luck to him, I don't wish anything bad on him, and I hope he gets a good cheer when he gets his Young Player award tommorow.

He's 19 and he's turning down a contract that means he will never have to get a proper job for the rest of his life.He is playing football for a club who in the next few years are going to be challenging for all the major honours out there.More importantly he is playing football for my club and i would happily play for my club for nothing whilst flogging my guts out for a pittance in my s***** job.
I don't care how much potential he has,get him out of my club NOW.
