More to the Sturridge riddle than meets the eye?

the author of this thread cant really stand up for DS, and i would ask him if he were MH would he give him 60k a week. even if he isnt after this ridiculous wage, he would have signed a contract no?

I think we would get a fee as he is under 21 (23?). Don't suppose we'll ever know the truth, could be another Ireland if he ever develops the same attitude to life and the game.

He is definitely 1 million percent not going to be a city player next year. I know that for a fact. As for where he's going, i've been told nothing is set in stone but it is likely to be Villa. Thats from a player.

EDIT: Also been told Sturridge is a quiet lad and keeps himself to himself. Seems like its his advisers doing the biz.

Anyone interested in bidding on Sturridge No.28 3rd away shirt? It will be on ebay tomorrow. All proceeds to The Stephen Ireland Foundation. (Not joking here)

The way some people talk about Sturridge as if he's "the next Maradona" baffles me.
Reminds me of the type of mass hysteria reserved for players like Micheda at the rags.

Sturridge is simply a good prospect-no more than that.Exactly as he's been for the last three seasons.
He's young.
He's struggles with injuries.
He's proved nothing that we didn't already know.
His "attitude" and body language on the pitch is often questionable.

He's absolutely nowhere near the finished article.

He could turn into a superb player. He might not.

If he wants to sign-great.If he doesn't-great.
It's no great loss.
There'll surely be others.
Unlike in the past, our immediate future as a football club or whether we stay up is not tied entirely to whether Sturridge has fallen out with Hughes, whether his family is involved, whether he wants 70 grand a week, whether he wants to play for the rags-I don't give a toss.

Does he want to play for City?Or does he want to go elsewhere?

It's up to him.

He's just not important enough to the team to warrant all this aggro.
Agree with 99% of that Robbie. I think you were being very kind when you said his attitude was 'questionable' at times, when that lad is not up for a game (sadly frequent) he makes it known in no uncertain terms, it is rare to see a player so disinterested as young Danny.

What is absolutely criminal here and it seems to be overlooked is that one of our best home grown talents is moving on, and Manchester City will be receiving no fee whatsoever . Why arent people up in arms about this?

Slightly mute point but because of his age and us developing him we will recieve a fee, all be it nominal (possibly a couple of million but who knows)

I have the feeling his family would like to retire somewhere nice before they get old hence the order to Daniel - "make it happen son , take the big signing on fee lad there´s a good boy" - they are not guaranteed that sort of cash if he gets injured and has to quit - his folks are obviously Villa fans to boot - a win-win all round except for us and the cash we´ve invested in his development - a well balanced family would not provoke a situation like this end of

Cheers,Sweep.

I've been watching the lad since he was lauded as the "best academy product ever."

He's got all the skill and potential in the world, but I've seen him just completely lose focus and vanish from the game if it's not going his way.
I know that he's still young, and that this can be levelled at many so-called "great" players-Berbatov springs to mind straight away-but young Sturridge,in my opinion has always been lacking in that extra 10% of "desire" and effort that turns a "good prospect" into a "great player."
Whether intentional or not-whenever I watch him play he always gives me the impression he'd rather be somewhere else.

For all of this,it's still a shame if we lose him.
I would hope that he stays-he links well with Robinho.I think that eventually, given time-that they could be a good pairing.

But he has to understand that he's not in the first 11 every week simply beacuse he's not yet ready. If Villa or Chelsea are willing to rest all their attacking hopes on him and throw him straight up front alongside Drogba/Carew(which I doubt) then good luck to them both, and I wish him well.

MH is totally right about this one, though.

Regardless of what is true about the contract on offer it's a shame that such a good young talent is heading for the door but it is rare we let a young player go who then goes on to be a "big name" only one who comes close for me is Michael Hughes he played for West Ham for years after we let him go
