More trams

This is something that could and should have been sorted out a long time ago.

I have repeatedly mentioned the after match problems to the Club and on the face of it they have done nothing.

I have examined the area around the stadium in regards to the Metrolink operation and think the following is possible.
  • There is room for two empty double trams in the turn back section (third track) between the Etihad stop and the Velodrome stop.
  • There is room to add a turn back section after the Velodrome stop and before the Ashton Canal which could hold another two empty double units.
The cost of adding the extra turn back track would be less than a bang average player.

Four empty double units would certainly help to shift fans quicker after a match and might encourage people to remain in their seats longer.

There just seems to be no willingness for the Club and Metrolink to get together and look into the problem.
The problem is you can only load one tram at a time & when one departs another arrives so I don' think the issue is the number of trams.

There always seems to be enough trams. The delay is queuing for the trams & getting everyone onto them.
When 50000 fans are leaving at the same time there's inevitably going to be long delays.
As for leaving early maybe the club could give incentives to fans who stay till the end, such as reward points to towards cheaper tickets. This could probably be done by putting some device onto the seat which triggers when in the up right position.
you have obviously never used the tram after the match to get to Ashton. Pathetic service. singles when they finally do arrive. The service is a serious accident waiting to happen. We stopped using it after being involved in a post match crush incident.

No they don't. That happens now and then. I've waited ages for the next one to come.

Those saying there are enough trams are wrong. I regularly wait 5 minutes or so in between trams. It never fails to piss me off.

I suspect paying overtime for extra drivers doesn't pay for metrolink. If so, City have to pay for an additional service to help clear the ground.

There may be logistical reasons why having extra trams from the etihad can't be accommodated, whether at the ground or on the rest of the network as they get into Manchester. These need to be explained to us and, if there are reasons the tram can't be run more efficiently, the club should be looking to find alternative solutions.

Maybe I've been lucky on the numerous occasions I've used the tram. There's always been another tram within a few minutes.

Sorry to disagree mate but you are completely wrong with that remark.

You can wait up to 15 minutes between trams and announcements are infrequent and barely audible.

The one undeniable fact is that Metrolink is completely useless at providing an adequate service after a match and frankly no better before the match, the only difference is fans are more spread out with their arrival times.

Which bit of Northwich do you live in and where's your seat in the stadium?
Actually out on Church St in Wincham. Ticket’s in 110 this season. Normally we walk up to Lostock Gralam station, get the train in then walk up the canal from Piccadilly. I enjoy that but it can take up to 2 hours door to seat - which is a bit of a push for mid week games.

The metrolink should be the main mode if transport for a huge number of fans on matchdays. Anyone coming into town by rail, and just look at the droves of people who March back to town along the tram route after every game.

As it is, same experience as many here, culminating in an eye openingly dangerous journey which means we'll walk in future, even in the rain. To city's loss as I might add, as we now have a drink in town rather than at the ground. Not sure if there is really a solution or if the metrolink just isn't the system we wanted and needed in Manchester.

On a none match weekday at rush hour, i was told by staff on the platform at the gardens that the ones to the stadium are double, but any that go to Ashton have to be single trams as the platforms on that route were not made long enough to have doubles on, and the road layout etc..

Whether true or bullshit i don't know.
