Morgan Gibbs-White

Maybe, but if it's to play with maybe Wirtz and Rodri, Nico comes into it too, both Nico 's for that matter. So then it's up to Foden and maybe MGW if we did buy him to compete for the 3 midfield places . Loads of options for rotation and competition there though.
Add to that O'Rielly best postion is also playing in that area and has proved he cann holdhis own, provide assists annd score.

if we need homegrown to fil l3 slots we should be bringing back trafford and going for Aina and livamento not more below par midfielders

But gibbs white doesn't

5 goals all season and 7 assists in 27 games

hardly prolific

he isn't on fodens level by a stretch.
That's how Forest play though low possesion, quite defensive, quite low scoring, so those stats don't correlate with what he may or may not produce with a team like ours.

People do realise we have no choice but to sign English players this summer also right?

"MGW’s versatility, intensity and OOP game is the most obvious Bernardo replacement. In fact, he’s even more creative.

So the fact we have no choice but to sign English players, the fact he will essentially sit alongside Rodri and provide much needed energy and legs and the ability to never loose the ball, it’s a win for me.

His passing and creativity from deep is superb also. Him, Wirtz if we manage to do it, Nico, Rodri, O Reilly, Gundo and probably Kovacic leaves us with a lot of options and quality. There’s a lot of different qualities in that midfield and more than ample cover without Rodri too.

I'm honest enough to say I'm like some snobby about English players if MGW was playing in Germany Italy with a German name it in Italy an Italian name we be looking at it differently! Also you have to pay this England tax on top of the fee you think he is worth! Can't see us going anywhere near 100m for him but could see us paying 75m thing is would Forest except that? With there owner I doubt it..

I very much doubt the club would be willing to spend a large amount of money on a player just to fill the home grown quota...

Personally I would rather see us introduce players like Divine Mukasa and Reigan Heskey into the first team both of which who are doing incredibly well especially Mukasa.

We've a well structured academy in place at the club, Possibly the best in Europe and it's time to use to it our advantage and play these lads instead of spunking silly money on the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White.

Not on fodens level from Fodens best season yeah , but Phil’s fallen off a cliff this season. Outside circumstances, right now Gibbs white is one of the best English midfielders in the prem which I hate to admit as I don’t think he’d start for the elite teams in Europe, But his level is higher than Phil right now.

There’s no guarantee that Phil returns to the level he was in his best season. Especially if he’s struggling with illness. He’s also not getting a full rest this summer due to the club world cup

Homegrown wise for a midfielder Gibbs white is the best you are going to get

We don't need to sign English players, we're just limited on the number of non-homegrown players we can sign.

He’s nothing like Palmer. He’s a physical player that can play a variety of roles - likely to be the number #8 for us. He’s better technically than Nunes and has put up great numbers this season and been a starring player for Forest. Say we get £40m for Nunes - it’s only another £30m or so.
Why are we buying a 10 to play the 8? He has never played that. He is a pure 10. what is this fetish to buy players to play another position? If he comes he will play behind Haaland nowhere else

Grealish is going. Walker is going. Stones probably going. We need to increase the squad size, we’re losing 2-3 homegrown players and need to make it bigger means we have to sign some homegrown players, yes.

I really don`t understand all the negativity towards the lad as IMO we could be signing a wonderful talent who Pep can/could make into an even better player.
I can only assume some people hate the fact that we are not signing a so called "world class player" ? Tell me the last time we truly signed one ?

Haaland.
Marmoush may yet prove to be.

nonsense, they are 3 points ahead of us having won one more game than us, we have both lost 9 games each, their form suggests they could still drop to 5th below us

He is having his best season in a team performing as well as we are and we are having our worst season in years

He doesn't improve us, he is at the level we are this year, we are aiming higher next year.

I was talking about PSG, not Nottingham Forest.

I don't want MGW.

He’s played as an 8 plenty of times for Forest this season.

The only players that really fit into that category for me would be: Gvardiol and Haaland. (Possibly Marmoush). We’ve been good at turning good players into great players.

Feels as though a bit of a sense of entitlement because MGW is not seen as ‘world class’. It’s usually United that target these world class player and look how it’s worked out for them: Maguire, Pogba, Antony, Casemiro, Shaw, Di Maria the list goes on.

PSG and Madrid have also been guilty of this - before PSG have changed their approach. MGW could turn into a brilliant player and is used to this league which is a big factor.

Yeah maybe we won't get him because there owner is serious at taking the club forward and wants to win! He might not budge from that 100m and I can't see us going that far!

I’m a huge Bernardo fan—I know exactly who he is and what he brings, so let’s be clear: MGW is not on Bernardo’s level. Let’s not get carried away with the like-for-like comparisons.

What I’m talking about is purely in terms of the position—specifically the midfield role. Yes, I’m fully aware Bernardo is our Swiss Army knife, capable of playing almost anywhere. But if MGW were to come in, I’d much rather see him deployed in the 8 role rather than the 10. He’s got the work rate and engine to put in a serious shift there.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, he wouldn’t be my pick—but since the club is clearly considering him, I’d personally see him more as an 8 rather than a 10. That said, the fee should be sensible—ideally no more than £55M, and if we’re being rinsed, then absolutely no higher than £60M.
Can definitely see the thought process. Think he could fit the profile of what we looked at with Rice and Bellingham like a few others have mentioned.

Given the shifts he puts in and the engine he’s got, I can see him in that role. But even if we sign him, it shouldn’t stop the club from going after Reijnders!

No I think that's the biggest thing, if he's a supplementary signing then I've no issue. But the issue starts when it's instead of a Wirtz or Reijnders level player. Bernardo is a great comparison in he isn't the star and he doesn't score or assist shed loads but I can't imagine anybody would turn their nose up and going back and signing him again. Even with the English tax of a MGW.
