Morgan Rogers | Signed by Middlesbrough

Similar to Ben Knight - it’s naive taking them into our academy to be one of many stars shoehorned into a team, when they’ve shone as the focal point at their previous clubs. We’d be better leaving them where they are with additional financial incentives to their club to develop them, or loan them out straight away.
So letting them stay as a 'big fish in a little pond' is better than playing (and learning) with other very good players? How would that prepare them for playing with our first team?

Yep we should have left Foden in Stockport when he was 8, and not have ruined his career by helping him with his schooling and opportunity to learn, train and now play at the highest level. Very few youngsters go from academies to playing with a Premier League winning team but if they want to join our club and our club thinks they can benefit the player and potentially our club why deny them that chance. City are doing quite well in spite of your perception of their "naivety".

Yep, because De Bruyne owes his success to those valuable years learning from the elite players he trained/played with at Genk in his teens. Senior football is the ultimate accelerator of development, regardless of the standard. That’s why so many Croatians become elite players - they play from their mid-teens in a mediocre league, but the experience they gain eclipses anything sanitised academy football offers. Its why Barcelona have a team in the third tier in Spain - the standard is dubious, but the likes of Xavi and Iniesta played 50+ games each there in their teens, and it was a platform for the rest of their careers to prosper upon.

Izzy Brown was similarly rated at 16, and left West Brom for Chelsea to train with better players in better facilities....turned out well for him as well.

Foden has been embedded into the club since he was a kid, Rogers on the other hand was well established in the West Brom ranks at a club with an incentive to focus on and maximise his development, plus a star of England youth teams, and chose to chase the prestige of a big club prematurely; they’re incomparable.

I think this year we'll see more of what made him such a coveted player last year. He already has PL physicality. He just needs to learn the finer points and another year in our system will do him a lot of good.

Morgan Rogers' arrival from West Brom summer is a good example, not only of talent but City's desire to make a mark in Europe.
Then 16, the pacy winger cost a reported £4 million and sources indicate he was signed specifically to boost the club's fortunes in continental competition. He needs time to bed into his new surroundings, however, having been at The Hawthorns all his footballing life.
(The Athletic summary)

Time & Patience is needed to adapt to City's brand of football.
Rogers has the potential to become one of the most important players in the squad, once he makes that step up.

That’s a good loan for him. Hopefully there will be a few more leaving on loan this month too.
