Mortgage deal ending

Out of interest, why do you think ‘huge savings’ are required?

We have spent the last two years giving money away the country clearly can't afford.

The inflationary impact isn't confined to just Britain.

Covid is our new Marshall Plan ball and chain.

I don't buy things if I don't have the money, certainly if I already have loans outstanding.

We cut back as a family until which time I can afford to.

Public finances and household budgets are not analogous.

I would agree, although I’d argue our response to Covid is the issue.
That being said, how we manage the effects of it is a purely political choice and this 12 year long government (no matter how much Sunk tries to pretend we have a ‘new’ government) are reaping the rewards of their Home Economics ideology. Their refusal to invest in Victorian infrastructure when borrowing costs were the lowest they’ve ever been, refusal to enforce privatised utility companies to discharge their obligations whilst, of course, discharging actual shit into our rivers and sea systems all in the name of making a profit, whilst protecting and enriching their friends and colleagues is an absolute scandal.
Ripping the heart out of Public Health England, who have always been fantastic at a local level in slowing disease, and then spunking THIRTY SEVEN BILLION POUNDS on test and trace to replace them is one of the biggest scandals ever seen in this country, which is saying something.

Finally, our leaders are still engaging in a culture war, that almost nobody cares about, rather than having some joined up policy on making this country fit for our children and grandchildren.

It's a political choice no party currently has an answer for.

Irrespective of what has occured in the last 12 years, the mistakes clearly made, it cannot legislate for a global pandemic.

Sunak enjoyed his grandstanding a little too much with the Covid giveaways, but without the benefit of hindsight, the entire world was thrown into a panic.

It angers me more that the money is suddenly found.

I wonder what our country would now look like if we had printed that £2trillion debt to modernise our country and infrastructure :(
