Very much so in the south at least. Not sure if it's because I spent my youth Oop north, but I don't recall these fuckers being a thing here until recently - just midges

Under a tree was always the worst place but they're a nuisance more than anything.

Maybe they reflect the rest of the organic life on the planet and just dislike me that much they wont even bother to bite me?

Some people never get bit by them. I think it's something to do with odour in their sweat. So you rub their sweat everywhere. Hope this helps :)
